Walters was in her omploy and after the death of Bor husband sought her hand in marriage. The widow permitted him to take her to dances but steadfastly roiected his marital propositions. The other day the couple went to Ther- mopolis Springs, where Walters pressed his snit and in a lit of des peration drew a gun and shot tho widow. Tho wounded woman turned to run and was shot dead. Her murderer then slashed his throat with a razor, but a telephone message states that he. is still alive. Seattle, Wash., Sept.—Advices from Dawson today state that a number of big robberies havo been carried on by thioves on the gold producing creeks back of this city this month. They have committed seven big thefts, taking in the aggregate more that $9,(100,all save $500 being in gold dust takon from the sluice boxes of tho big miues. The police have been utterly uuablo so far to accomplish anything definite. Nearly all o f tho robberies have been committed at midnight whilo tho night crews of tniuors have been at their midnight meal. The largest losers have been James B, McNameo, No. 2G B, above on Bonanza, $3,000, on August 22, and Barrbtt & McDonald, on Chee- clmch hill, who lost a like amount on August 21. Lost in the Hills. Billings, Sopt. 8.—On Friday morn ing Mr. aud Mrs. Jamos Steele, of tho valley, aud Mrs. D. M. Parker, of tbid citv, with thoir children went to Blue creok plumming. After making a camp tho parly came upon a dock of chickens which divided, dying in two directions. Mrs. Parker’s son, Willie, aged 13, and ,Bennie Steele, started after tho birds, going in tho different directions. When tho party was ready to start home early in tho afternoon it was found that Willie Parkor was'still missing. Search was at once commenced and lias been kept up ovor since, but uo trace of him has yet boon found. A largo party from this city is now in tho hills hunting for him. The boy is a nephew of County Commissioner W. O. Parker and Hon. Ed Cardwell, of this city. H. O. Arm o u r Dies Suddenly. Can Sell W ife’s Property. Josoph Kipp, of Kipp, on the Blackfeet reservation, has recently taken out letters of administration on the estato of his dead wife, an Indian woman. Judge D. F. Smith, of Kalispell, has authorized Kipp to sell the property of the estato; con sisting of 400 bead of catllo and 300 bead of horses, all ranging on the reservation. The action of Judge Smith is looked upon here as going a long way toward settling the question of jurisdiction of state courts ovor ludiau reservations in cases where whito men’s interests are involved. Tragedy of Love. to liod Lodge, Sopt. 8.—Drivon desperation by unrequited love, a Big Horn suitor yesterday continued the carnival of crime by murdering tho object of his insane infatuation and cutting his own throat’ The double tragedy took place at Ther- mopolis Hot Springs, Wyoming, and tho parties thereto were Mrs. A. L. Hoover, a widow of less than $ix months, and,it man named : Walters. Saratoga, N. Y., Sept. 8.—Herman 0. Armour, of Kansas City, died sud denly of apoploxy at his summer cottage hero. Mr. Armour, who had been in comparatively frail health for some time, was able to ride out onco or twice a day, and appeared to bo gaining stronght. This forenoon accompanied by a coachman, he took his regular drivo and on his return stated that he felt much refreshed. Shortly afterward, while seated on tho porch of his cottago with friends, ho suddenly ceased talking and im mediately expired. Judge N oyes In W a shington. Washington, Sept. 8.—Judge A. H. Noyes, of the Nome judicial district in Alaska, against whom have been preferred charges of corruption and irregularities in connection with min ing claims, arrived here tonight. A severe attack of asthma compelled to call in a physician shortly after his arrival and he was unable to see visitors. He expected to report to morrow to the attorney general to confer over the charges filed against him. The lattor, however, is in Buf falo, a fact of which Judge Noyes- has not yet been apprised.
