Petitions for tho nppoiutmont of salar ied deputy sheriffs nt Dupuyer and Cut Bunk were then considered, and wori denied for the reason that nudor tho rul ings of the attorney general of tho state of Montana and the county attorney, tho board of commissioners cannot, legally authorize such appointments as n county expense. Report of G. Walker, jnstico of the peace, Marias township for quarter end ing May HI. 1902, was then examined, approved and warrant uulored l.-r costs incurred. Board then authorized the expenditure of two hundred dollars for road work in District No. 4. Petition was presented for change in Choteau ami Collius road in vicinity of Moore’s raueb. Viewers were appointed who immediately viewed samo nud pre sented report. Board fixed June 23, 1902, ns the day for hearing and C iir I action on same. Board then audited accounts of its members nud ordered warrants drawn in payment of same. Board then ndjourued sine die. The benefits of this acts shall extend to bona fide claims already received by tho local land offices after the etatutory period, and for which patents have not issued, provided the settlers have complied with the pro visions of the law except as to the time o f filing their claims. Settlers, in order to obtain the ben efit o f this act, must have made bona fido settlement upon the land claim ed prior to tho date of the proclama tion establishing the forest reserve and maintained continuous residence thereon for the period required by the law' under which tho claim is asserted. Applications for entry under the terms of this act must be filed in the local land office within two years from April 15, 1902. W i t h tho application to make entry tho a pplicant must file an affidavit showing the date of his settlement, and that his residence on the land applied fot has been continuous since that date; aud that his failure to place his claim of record withiu the statutory period was due to some one of the reasons set forth in the act. Bona fido claims which haye here tofore been erroneously allowed by the local land officers for lands with in forest reserves for the expiration of\ the statutory period within which to place such claims qf repord are con 7 firmed by this act, provided the set tlers have complied with the provis ions o f the laws under which the claims were initiated, and that their failure to place their claims of record in proper time is satisfactorily ex plained as due to causes bringing them within the conditions prescrib ed in this act.
