ID, Last Sunday was a gala day in old Choteau and everybody for miles around turned out to witness the championship ball game o f the season between the Choteau “Invincibles” and the Burton “ Tigers.” It was a pretty exhibition of skill and excited the admiration of all lovers of the national game. After one of the most desperate struggles ever witnessed on the diamond, the Bur ton “ Tigers” went do.wn before tbo Invincibles by the remarkable score of 2 to 1. Some claim that the Tigers would not have secured a single tally had not Umpire Long’s decision been rank against the Choteau club, for if ever a player deserved groat credit it was cpnter fielder Davis, who, after what seemed an almost impossible run across the diamond snatched the bail from its etheral holdings and held it high alpft in air. The umpire claims he did not see it and decided against him, thus allowing the Tigers to mako their one tally. On the other side Paul Jacobson made tho star play. A ball was thrown to him from the pitcher’s box, and seeing that it was goipg to be too high for him, turned a complete summersault in the air and captured the flying missile, and, while in this precarious position threw the ball to home plute, thus putting tho player and side out without a score. There were numerous other plays both exciting and brilliant but v have neither space nor time to detail them. The one marring feature of the game was in the lust inning when Pitcher Shook of tho Choteau club into Catcher Hamilton of the ran Burtop boys and seriously injured him for a short titpe, The batteries for the clubs wero: Choteau—Elroid, catcher} Shook, pitcher. For Burton—Hamilton, catcher; Ferguson, pitcher. The teams were ably managed on both sides, Mr. Lawrence Davis for tho homo team and Air. Harry Thomp son for the Burton boys, ' On The \N a rrow Pike.” Sub-contractor W. G. Mulligan, on the Groat Falls & Canada, spent yes terday in the city. He states that by tho end of the week ho will have all of the changed grade completed as far as the 25 mile post from the city. On this part of the coatract there has been no change in the route. The work has consisted of widening the roadbed aud putting in new bridges. The steel gang ia busy and has new rails laid as far as Vaughn. 4s soon as this work is completed Air. Mulligan will move his three out fits north o f where they are now and contiaue toward Shelby, doing all the work where the road lies, along the line of the old Great Falls & Canada. —Great Falls Tribune.
