Turner has been ap pointed a justice of the peace at Cut Bank, vice Geo. W . Walker, resigned. Paul Jacobson, Severt Syso and Ben Bollerud left on Tuesday for a ten days hunting trip in the moun tains. Mrs. C. J. Fawcett left here the first of the week for St. Louis, Mo., where she will spend the winter with relatives and friends. John Hawley has rented the St. Clair building, opposite the Choteau House, and opened same as a first class lodging house. Lizzie and Annie Galbreatb, daughters of the well known old timer and stockman of north Teton county, arrived in town where they will attend school. The public school at Shelby will not bs opened until September 15th and Miss Grace Lewis, the teacher, will visit with her aunt at Glasgow until that date. Hester and wife, of Great Falls, are expected here to-morrow and in company with C. H. Connor and family will go to the Sun River Hot Spring for a two or three weeks’ outing. The Rev. Hobab Crinkleroot has gone to Kipp, on the reseryation, where he has secured a position with Jes. Kipp as deputy postmaster. The price of eagle’s feathers has al ready advanced several cents each. C. W. Taylor has been in Helena this week attending the meeting oi’ the democratic state central com mittee. Mrs. T. A. Smith is representative for Teton county for the Perfec tion Ladies Tailoring Company of Chicago. F. D. Kingsbury, the Dupuyer merchant, was in the city several days this week in attendance of the dis trict court. Stearns, the eye special ist, has been detained at Dupuyer on account of professional work. He will be at Choteau, Mont., September 8lh and remain for a few days, Dad Walker, an old time miner, now located at Swift Current, was in the city this week. He seems well pleased with the prospects of that camp and expects greater things in the future. W. G. Downing, of Great Falls, who represents the Montana Stock Association as their attorney, is here this week assisting in the prosecution of several cases now being tried here. Mrs. Myrta Titus has resigned her position aB teacher in the school at Kibby, in Cascade county, and will return to her home in Dupuyer. Mrs. Titus is mentioned as a possible candidate for the republican nom ination for superintendent of schools of this county. John Largent, of Sun River, is in town thiB week looking up his old time friends in this section. This is Mr. Largent’s first visit to Choteau in 18 years and he finds many changes in the town. W. H- Griffin, of Kalispell, Grand Master of the I. O. O. F. of Montana has notified Choteau Lodge No. 11 that he will be here on September 12th. All members of the local lodge and all visiting brothers are invited to be present on that date. Work in the initiatory degree. The “Educated Dutchman” who las been bolding the boards down at the Mint saloon the past week is quite a novelty in his line and furnishes quite a bit of amusement for the boys. On Monday the game season opened and many were the sportmen who went out on that day to secure for themselves a chicken or duck that they might still keep in memory tho taste of theso forbidden fowls. Last Sunday evening while return ing to the ST ranch Tom Holmes- had the misfortune to have his leg broken. He was on horseback riding along when bis horse stepped in a badger hole and foil, throwing his rider and breaking his right leg just above tho ankle. Dr. Brooks is at tending him and be is getting along as well as could be expected. F. C. Rev. Bnszell, who held his first quarterly conference, reports that that the people of Shelby are giving Rev. Bailey returned Monday from a months’- visit with relatives and friends at his old home in New Hampshire. Mr. Bailey has had a very pleasant time while in the east but is nevertheless glad to get back to the glorious state of Montana. Tho county commissioners hove authorized the sheriff to appoint a deputv sheriff to act between Pondora and Collins at a salary of $50. per month. Attorneys Brady and Greene, of Great Falls, were among tbe number of outside attorney in attendance at this term of tbe district court. E. H. Mrs. Kufus and daughter Miss Talma, of the Burton bench, loft here on Moilday last for Janesville, Wis., where they will visit relatives for a few weeks. G. Bair and Frank Pence re ceived their hunting doga home from North Dakota on Saturday last where they have been for aevaral months under- training. The county commissioners are in session at the offico of the clerk this week, all members being present. During the week eloction precincts have boen formed, a new precinct having been organized at Cut Bank and aomo minor changes mado in the boundaries of some of the old precincts.
