Carl Harris, the well-known Dupuyer merchant, was in the city last Friday, on his way to Helena for a short visit. Emanuel Jacobs, who has been visiting with the Hirshbergs for a short time, left the first of the week for his home at Long Beach, Cal. ______________ One dozen framed studies, values up to 35c, oue to a customer at 10c each. One hundred new studies now on display at the Choteau Wall Paper and Art Store. Valier lost two games of base ball to the Conrad nine last Satur day and Sunday. The score stood 5 to 6 in the first game and 7 to 3 in Sunday’s game. On account o f the wet condition of the roads and grounds the pic nic will be postponed one week. We are glad te have the rain, but it is not good picnic weather. In order to complete a couple of extra tiles, we would like to buy two Moutanans of Nov 21, 1913, two of Dec. 12, 1913, and one of March 6, 1914. Owner can have same by calling on the under signed. James Thorne, Limington, Mont, R. C. Trumbell and wife arrived in Choteau Tuesday, where Mr. Trumbull will assist at the Cho- teau Drug Co’s, store until the drug store at Bynum will be opened, which will be in about ten days or two weeks, when they will move to that city to take charge o f the business there. The town of Ohoteau and the surrounding country .has been visited this week with several fine showers, which will prove of incalculatable benefit to the grow ing crops. The country was be ginning to get very dry in places, but the rains of the past few days have revived the hopes of the “ dry lander.” The Bynum school trustees have elected Miss Ethel Reid as teach er of the seventh and eight grades, also the first and second year of the high school course, Miss Estelle Stonehouse as teacher in the intermediate grades, and Miss Alma Zimmerman in the primary grades. They expect to build a new schoolbouse at Bynum dur ing the summer, which will be ready for occupancy at the open ing of school in September. Mrs. Mary Lippincott, of Lew- istown, state organizer of the Brotherhood of American Y’ eo- man, is in the city for the purpose of organizing a local lodge. There are ten old members of the organ ization in Choteau, and it is thought she will secure at least 30 new members in this neighbor hood, so that the new lodge will start off with a membership of about 40 or more. The Yoemen is an insurance organization, and bad a total membership of 182,645 on the first day o f January, 1914. Spaulding, the forest supervisor, returned Tuesday evening from Glacier Park, where he had been for several days look ing after official business. John Barnett, whose leg was broken a few weeks ago and who has been at the hospilal in Conrad since that time, returned to this city last Saturday. Mrs. C. H. Connor returned last week from Bezeman, where she had beenjvisiting for a short time. She was accompanied by her son Vivian, who has been a student at the agricultural college in that city. The work of putting in cement sidewalks was started in Choteau this week, Jo9. Hirshberg & Co. having the honor of being the first business firm in the city to commence work. The walk in front of their business block is fifteen feet in width and will be completed in a few days, weather permitting. W. W. Hurd, of St. Paul has bought the Hein ranch of 10,022 acres near Conrad and the George E. Bowers ranch of 7,000 acres near Choteau. The combined purchase price is reported to be about?500,000. The Bowers ranch has 40-miles of ditches, while 300 head of stock was included with the Hein ranch.—Minneapolis News. J. D. Miller, of Birch Creek, was arrested last Saturday on a charge o f issuing worthless checks. He was in the custody of the officers so soon after the check was cashed at one of our local stores that he bad no chance to spend any of the money received. On returning the money and pay ing the costs in the case, he was released from custody. It was afterwards learned, however, that Miller was wanted by the sheriff of Cascade county on a similar charge, but in the meantime he had left town, leaving no address. They have moved to their ranch at Fairfield, which adjoins the Alfred Hanson place. En route Mrs. Bleecker and the boys spent a few days at Stady, North Dakota, visitiug her broth er, Ole Hanson. Marion Pridham. daughter of Attorney T, H. Pridham and wife, had her arm broken last Saturday evening. While at play with a a number of young com panions Marion feil out of a de livery wagon that they were pushing around the yard, the wagon wheel passing over the arm, breaking it. It is repor ted that she is getting along as well as could be expected.
