STEPH E N 'S NOTES. (See card of services in another part of this paper.) The party given by the Guild last Monday evening in the ;K. of P.-,hair proved to he j i .vej-y enjoyable affair, and was well'- attended. FifteeiL'ta- bles of cards were occupied until about ten-thirty when a bounteous lunch was served. Dr. Percy Stickney Grant, the New York rector who has been receiving wide newspaper noteriety of late, has been rector of this Parish of the Ascention in lower Fifth Averiue for the past thirty years and has a glor ious record behind him of things done for the betterment of the work ing classes of society. He lately has flatly denied the divinity of Jesus of Nazareth and, since the Episcopal church has placed itself squarely up on that doctrine, and Dr. Grant will not resign after finding himself no longer believing in the doctrines^ of the Episcopal Church, there is noth ing left for his Bishop, Dr. Maiming, to do but commence proceedings to unfrock the rector. Dr. Grant is en titled to believe as he pleases, of course, but he ought to have the good sense to withdraw from the organiza tion with which he finds himself no longer in harmony. && Ike” Martine Royalties Leases Oil Lands Crystal White Soap, 20 bars for $1. A farmer carrying an express package from a big mail order house was accosted by a local dealer. “Why didn't you buy that bill of goods from me? I could have saved you the express, and besides you would have been patronizing a home store, which helps pay the taxes and build up this community.” The farmer looked at the merchant a moment and then said. “Why didn’t you patronize your home paper and advertise?
