F R O M T H E R E S ER VATIO N . Special C o rrrespondence. W illow C r e e k , March 6,1892.— Many of our tillers of the soil con template plowing as soon as the frost is out of the ground, and doubtless a larger acerage will be seeded than ever before. Up to thè present writing stock has not suffered for want of water as Two Medicine, Cut Bank, and Willow creëks have been open nearly all winter. Neither has stock suffer ed for food, as the ranges are cov ered with cured grass and the bench lands have been free from snoW. À report, iscurrent here, and it is generally believed, that a new agency will be built during the comming summer, but its location is not known. Also, a new Mis sion will be built and operated by the Presbyterians. When work commences on these two institu tions, a great many men will be employed and much money put in circulation. There will also be a.bridge built across Two Medi cine at the Holy Family Mission. This will probably be done by In dians and half-breeds. One thing quite noticeable is the rapid strides the Indians are making toward civilization. W here once stood the tepee are now good, comfortable log houses. Cattle and horses have taken the place of the buffalo, and the chase has become a thing of the past, and instead the Blackfeet are di recting their attention to agricul ture and stockraising, They are well supplied with provisions and cooking utensils. Wagons and harness are issued to them, and of which they are very proud. They have, also, departed from the old- time custom of asking visitors to be seated upon the ground, and instead, set. out a chair. Upon assuming charge of the Blackfeet agency, Maj. Steel 1 was im novice. Unlike his predeces sors in office, he had but little to learn. Having spent over a quar ter of a century among them, he was well acquainted with their character and traditions. He had traded with them in years gone by, knew their weak and strong points, and was always considered by them as a friend. He is the right man in the right place. Under the supervision of Supt. Robinson Ihe government school on Willow Creek is flourishing. Although yet in its infancy it promises to be a great, success as an institution of learning. Two ladies have lately been added to the force: Miss Èmma Cimimeli, of Indian Territory, and Mrs. Birdie «Summers, of Fort Seolt, Kansas. U. S. Commissioner Warner, of Choteau, was a visitor at the agency last week, and the guest of the Hon. K. 0. Garrett. Both gentlemen paid a visit to the school on the 28th ult. Upon their return to the agency they expressed themselves as highly pleased with their visit, and the courteous treatment they received while there. As importali!, busi ness demanded Mr. Warners re turn home, his stay among us was somewhat, limited, but it could be readily seen that, his friends were numerous and regretted his early departure. Mr. John Wren, formerly of Choteau, was also a visitor at the agency. He lives a short distance from the school house, and is at present following the pursuit of farming and stockraising. Al though years have elapsed since your, correspondent had met with him, John seems as hale and hear ty as in days of yore. S ynax .
