Miss Maggie Moore returned from a lengthy vieitto Helena on Tuesday. Hon. E. E. Leech, member elect to the legislative assembly, has gone to Hele na on business. The water rates ol tbe Fort Benton Water Works Co. were raised 50 per cent, yesterday. It is but justice to add, however, that Fort Benton is not a “ dry city” in every sense of term. Byron Corson returned from Great Falls last evening, where he went to re ceive a cargo of apple from the east. Owing to the inclemency of the weather he was oblighed to store them there and defer shipment un til it became warmer weather. Geo. Adlam received a barrell of ap ples from Durham, Ontario, the night before Thanksgiving, as a present from bis father. There is nothing strange about this, bub one year ago on the night before Tlianksgiving a similar bar rell of apples arrived. And they are good apples, too. The fixtures and furniture for the bank are on their way between here and Great Falls, and if the weather contin ues good they will be here in a few days, and in place. Wo understand from an authoritative source that the bank will be opened and ready for bu siness on the first of Janurry. The stockholders of the Sun River Sheep company will bold a meeting in the Power building, Helena, on January 10th, 1893, for the purpose of increas ing the capital stock of the company to $ 110 , 000 ; and also for the purpose of submitting the question of organizing a new company, and b elling and transfer- ing to said company so organized all property, real and personal, owned by the Sun River Sheep company. Chas. F. Green, of the Lake Basin ranch, reports that, during Sunday night’s storm one of Flowerree’s sheep- herders on the “ Grimes’ ” ranch lost his band of some 2,200 wethers. The sheep in some way broke from the corrall and stampeded with the storm. The herder started in pursuit, but could not keep up with the fleeing animals and soon he became bewildered, aud when day broke he knew not where he was. He wander ed about on the prairie all that day and into the next night when he came to Green’s ranch in an almost exhausted condition. We have not learned as to the fate of the sheep, but it is presumed that they turned up O. K. ere this or more would have been beard about the matter. Alfred Harris, wife, and little daugh ter, arrived home from a six months visit to relations in Europe on Monday evening, last, well and hearty. They re port an exceedingly pleasant vi if among friends and relatives then- Tn. .spent a considerabl portion of H ip time in and around Briesen, West Puisi-ia, ■where they were comparatively safe from the cholera which was then raging so furiously in Germany. In order to get hbme^Mr. Harris had to go to South ampton, England, via London. He re ports a rough, tempestuous passage to New York. Speaking of the result of the election, he save they did not learn o; it until within 150 miles of New York when the the p ilot came aboard, and so does not know wbat the Prussians did on learning that Cleveland was elected, but' he supposes they rejoiced exceedingly, as the. republican policy of protection-to •American industry has worked a great injury to foreign manufacturers, and the people were crying out against it and praying for the defeat of Harrison and the ,removal of the obnoxious tariff. Mr. Harris expresses himfielf as exceed ingly glad to get back to his Montana home and we are sure l.is aud Mrs. Har ris’ numerous friends are much pleased to welcome them. School Report—Room One.
