B orn —On Thursday, Dec. 29, to the. wife of'Byron Corson, a son. Mrs. T. P. AspliDg was taken sudden ly ill yesterday, but to-day she is much improved. Chas. Loucks is in town from Marys ville. He came to look after a bunch of beef steers which he and Chris Burmisttr have in this vicinity. Several large loads of lumber for the new hotel are now on the ground and work is expected to begin thereon next week if the weather is favorable. Byron Corson is the proud father of a lb. boy, which arrived yesterday morning. As a consequence he was “ set ting ’em up” —Byron was, not the boy. The legislative assembly will meet next Monday, and already there is a large contingent packing their grips pre paratory to storming that body in the interests of To ton county. There will be a meeting of the citizens of Oboteau and viciuity to-morrow af ternoon in the hall over the Bank of Choteau for the purpose of taking Bteps to secure the creation of Teton county, ect. The dance laBt Friday evening was a most pleasant affair. On Monday even ing last, the young folks tendered Mose Silverman a Jarewell party at the residence of Sol. Cohen. Mose left for Ada, Ohio, on Wednesday morning, where he will attend college. Julian Burd will probably attend this session of the legislature in the interests of Teton county; also J. W. McKnight, W. R. Ralston, Z. T. Burton, Julius Hirshberg, et. al. In fact nearly all the boys will be there either in their own or somebody else’s interests. Chas. W. Gray, countv commissioner and the only member of the Choteau Canvassing board who did not run away, left Wednesday noon for Fort Benton to canvass the Box Elder vote according to a pre-emptoryjjwrit of mandate issued by the Supreme court. He will also attend the special meeting of the commissioners to be held on Sat\ urday (to-morrow). J E. Webb and J. W. Cor y have se cured a location in a central part of town upon which they intend to build a town hall. It will be a two-story struc ture, 24 leet wide by 80 feet in length, finished in good style. The erection of such a building will supply a long-felt want besides adding greatly to the ap pearance of the town. Mr. Webb leaves for Great Falls in a few days to select the material and complete arrangements for the speedy completion of the work. I. S. Gorson is expected to arrive to morrow evening from the Falls, aud next week ground will most likely be broken for the new hotel which he and W. F. Burgy are to build on the corner of M a in and Hamilton streets, apposite th e o ldY a lly hotel. M r . The exercises at the school house last Friday evening were a treat to the older portion of the people present, while to the little ones the tastily bedecked Christmas trees which stood on the left of the stage, were the acme of their de light. Loaded with presents from the floor to the ceiling stood the two evergreen trees, Things of beauty and sources of joy forever. Soon after the opening of the doors'to the public the house- became crowded, .nob, however, with eager children, but with grown people—the fathers, moth ers, sisters, brother, the cousins and the aunts of the little folks who were swarming into Miss Guyon’s room at the rear end of the building, and from which they emerged only as their names were called to do their part upon the stage in the front room, retiring again when they had done. The exercises were begun by Pearl .Kennedy who told how some one did “ when his wife is gone away” and ended bv her brother Gael telliug them about “ The Little Town of Choteau” and its one postoffice “ With a Lyon Ueepin’ hit.” Each piece was well rendered and often a. special hit was made by some jOjDg actor. Without exception tbty were a bright set of youug folks and to be proud of. The teachers deserve the thanks of every parent whose child attends this school for the manner in wLich they haudle the scholars and the good work they are doing. The txeicUt-s being over, Prof. Bair annonuced the gift to school No. 1, by M rs. Snow ceased falling 'Frrdaj night last; eight inches having:'fkllen within the 3^6 hours preceeding. . The temperature on Friday went up to 11°- above, and has ranged from 3° to.46° ajbove every day since audl ranging from 15® below to 21° above during the night. TlVlb thawing in the daytime and .freez ing a t night has had tbe.effect of putting bhe'sto.ck ranges in a* worse^ condition than 'that reported last week. True, we have heard of no loses as yet, but from all over this northern section comes the repbrt that cattle are-suffer ing and daily growing thin—starving, in' fact, with a suyplus of the .best . feed in the world l.Ving within a 'few iuches of their nosesbutftburied under the .frozen snow and, consequently out o! „their reach. There has been a lack of wind for the past month and the snow , lays like , a blanket on all the land where there is good grass. This morning, how ever, a strong, westerly wind sprang up, and as the temperature at 8 o ’clock was 24° above and rising, there is every rea son to belseve that the hour of deliver ance has arrived.
