THE MONTANIAN. PsfelfilMj.d Every Friday Evening at Choteau Choteau Co., Montana.. ,8. M. CORSON, Editor. FRIDAY, JANUARY 13,1893. T he Great Falls Leader seems to be vieing with the Spokane Sun day Sun, one of the most scurri lous publications in the west, in its •election of reading matter. The editor, not content with what vile »tuff he can write himself, admits slanderous articles from abroad and lends his endorsement thereto. Just what the object of Mr. Rolfe is in endorsing any of the statements contained in the , t aitides in question, is hard to de termine, except that it is “ the nature of the beast” and he can’t help it. The author of the letter Written trom Choteau and publish ed in last Saturday’s issue of the Daily .Leader seems to have a weakliest which renders him a fit subject for pity and medical treat ment, rather thau responsibility, and any ordinary newspaper man «child »eethat from what he writes. Ex Gov. T oole is announ ed to have gone into partner.-hip with the attorney of the Northern Pa cific railroad company. Maginnin ought to join the same firm. His experience as mineral land agent for Montana would doubtless pe culiarly fit him for the position of attorney for- the railroad in its fight against the people and the government. R eports from thé headquarters of the Teton - county; .coiinrn'ij$.ee,s. rooms in the Power block, Helena -are favorable to the formation o the new county, also from Benton where the people \held â meeting on last Monday evening , anc passed the following resolutions W hereas , It is apparent that the residents of the western part of Choteau county are desirious of being seperated from us for the reason that their present great dis tance from the county seat is i matter of great personal .incon venience to the people o f that'Sec ' lion,- and W hereas , It is the desire of the people ot that section to form a new county to be known as Teton county; a~nd W hereas , It is the sense of this meeting that the claim for a new county is a just one, and we recog nize that the people of the- west ern section of Choteau county are more fully able' to assume the ex pense and resprnsibility oi a coun ty organization than to meet the expenses as at present incurred; therefore be it R e - olvkd , that we. the citizens of this portion of Choteau county pledge ourselves net to antagonize the scheme for the formation of Teton county; but that we instruct and request our representatives in both branches oi tne state legisla ture co use all honorable mean» to secure the formation of Teton county, at. the present session of the legislature^provided, however, that the eastern boundary of the praposed Teton county be estab lished directly an the principal meridian, from the southern boundary of Choteau counter to' the international bouniary line. W e publish portions of Qover nor Rickard’s message to the Leg islative Assembly in this issue, re gretting that our limited space would not allow us to reproduce it in full. It ft'an excellent article and worth the perusal of every citizen. W e have endeavored to give as much of it as more es pecially concerns the people o f this section.
