m T H E M O N T A N I A N . Every Friday Evening at Choteau Teton Co., Montana. S. M. CORSON, Editor. FRIDAY, MARCH 10, 1893. T hat senator whom the inde pendent howled so much about is a republican. I t is reported that W. A. Clark it politically dead, and that Mar cus Daly l«ai joined ihe populists. G ov.' R icrards appointed Lee Mantle, of Butte, United States senator to succeed W. F. Sanders, on Saturday last. Mr. Mantle left for Washington on Sunday to take his seat. T hb roll of the United States senate now stands, 45 democrats, 39 republicans, 3 populists or alli ance men, and one to be elected member. This gives them a ma jority in each branch of congress. E N C O U R A G I N G . [Great Falls Leader.] The people up at Choteau are very much alive as the season of 1893 opens. T hb M ontahian says there will be a meeting this after noon to discuss the subject of rail road communication with Great Falls, that it has the word of one Interested in the Great Falls & Canada road to the effect that an offer of substantial assistance would make the proposition an acceptable one to the directors. It states further that the Great Falls & Canada people will be glad to discuss the project with those who may interest themselves in carry ing it out. This is good. The time is surely coming when Oho teau and Great Falls must have communication direct by rail. The 6ooner a way is provided to con nect these two points the better it will be for all the surrounding country. If Choteau is ready to take held of the subject in dead earnest this is a matter which may profitably attract the attention of the board of trade. Besides its stock interests, Teton county can raise thousands of bushels of wheat and Great Falls will in a few weeks have superior facilities for making it into four. F l o u r i n g M ill and Seed W h e a t* The Leader is glad to say to the farmers of Cascade county and northern Montana that work upon the plant of the Royal Milling company seems to be progressing with rapidity. The elevator was practically finished some time ago and the mill is about ready for the placing o f machinery, a portion of which has already been received. Mr. Fanning, the Townsite com pany’s engineer, has been here within a few days with the com plete plans for the powerhouse, and workmen are now busy upon the site. With this much accom plished there is no reason why any rancher should hesitate to put in as much wheat as his conven ience will fallow. Indeed the ranchers through all this section should do what they can in the way of furnibhing a wheat supply the first year. The company has supplied a Great Falls firm with seed wheat, which is sold at a rea sonable price and upon easy terms for payment. Many ranchers are availing themselves of the oppor (.unity to secure good clean seed wheat to the end that their crops may have a full market value.— Great. Falls Leader.
