While making the pre sentation, executive committee member Joe Buyan paid tribute to Connor’s leadership during the past two years. Christmas giving occupied much of the meeting. Donations were sent to charitable agencies. Mem bers brought clothes and personal items for the Montana State Hos pital Grange project and “Gifts With a L ift\ program. Jams and fruits were collected for the Sor-. optimist Home for children, and toys and puzzles will, be sent to the Montana State Training School. Reading material for the state and local hospitals and in stitutions was donated. A New Year’s Eve card party was planned. Special committee members are Mr. and Mrs.. John Pettengill, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Belden, Tom Connor, and Wilbur- etta Reynolds. More details of the party will be announced later. Community service chairman Tom Connor reported that he, Virgil Taylor, and John Pettengill had assembled and hung the fold ing door in the school auditorium. They will be varnished during the school holidays when the building is not in use. Health chairman Helen Buyan reported Grange assistance would be needed for the audio-meter tests at the school later in the year. Frank Padrotti was re-admitted to the Melrose Grange. During the program Wilburetta Reynolds read a letter urging Con gressmen to uphold the Constitu tion and remember their oath of office. Pearl McCullough read “The Town o f §on’t You Worry” and Anna Taylor r e a d “ The Van ished Friend.” /Florence Goody told an amusing anecdote. Helen Buyan outlined ten easy steps to raise a delinquent. Joan Marie Connor amused the group with “Nine Nights A-Gnawing.” “To day’s Thought” by Glayds Evans completed the program. VOLUME NUMBER 1 DILLON, MONTANA MONDAY, DECEMBER 17, 1962 NO. 17 Jerry Knaebel Transferred To Idaho Post Forest Supervisor V. N. Stokes announces the promotion and transfer of Civil Engineer Jerry B. Knaebel from the Beaverhead National Forest to the supervisor’s office oh the Nesperce National Forest in Grangeville, Idaho. The transfer will become effective January 6V1963. Knaebel'' was bom in Hancock, Mich., graduated from high school at Haughton, Mich., and received his B.S. degree in Civil Engineer ing from Michigan College of Mining and Technology in 1958. Before joining the Forest Ser vice, Mr. Knaebel was employed as civil engineer for Idaton IncQr- poration at Haughton. He came to the Beaverhead National For est in 1958 and has assisted with construction of rpads, trails, dams, etc. He also has acted as con tracting officer for several access road projects on the forest. Mr. and Mrs. Knaebel and three small sons will move to Grange ville early in January. Raymond Burr of S|lver Star Dies, Funeral Tuesday By Frances Bacon Raymond Burr Dawson of Silver Star, died Saturday in a Butte hospital. Bom in Afton, Okla., he had been a Silver Star resident for several years. He attended schools in Nevada and Oklahoma. He was an ardent hunter and fisherman. • Funeral services will be con ducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Duggan Merrill Mortuary at Butte with the Rev. Leon Furrh officiat ing. Burial will be in the Silver Star Cemetery. Surviving are a son, Robert of California; stepmother, Mrs. Edda Dawson of California; and broth ers, Paris and Kenneth of Butte and A. H. Dawson of California. 131 Workers Placed by Local Employ n e a t Office Paul Stahl Jr., manager of the Montana State Employment Ser vice in Dillon, reports that his of fice placed 131 men and women during the month of November. Ninety were* placed in nonagri- cultural activities—46 in contract construction, seven in other, pub lic utilities^ 25 in wholesale and re tail trade, four in state govern ment, two in service except pri vate households and six in private households. - ’ ‘ Forty - one were placed on ranches and forms fencing, feed ing, herding, cooking and general ranch work. Sheridan Game Warden Is Given Promotion HELENA—Leonard Secor, state fish and game warden at Sheridan since 1955, has been narrated district warden supervisor at the Montana Fish and Game Department’s dis trict headquarters in Glasgow, the department announced Saturday. Secor will be replaced at Sher idan by Arthur Warner, a fish and game warden, who has been at Glendive' since 1957. C a n c e r Unit Lists '62 M e m o rials The Beaverhead County Unit of the American Cancer Society re ceived 14 memorial1 contributions during 1962, according to Mrs. Dan Piccone, unit treasurer. The memorials were made in the names of W. W. Hawkins, Mrs. Harriett Brobaugh, Mrs.' Marguer ite Wilhelm, Mrs. Maude Harper, Mrs. Clare Opp, Victor M. Camp, Raymond C. Lathrop, Elwood Mor rison, Mrs. Bertha (Thibedeau) Wheatley, Francis J. Staudaher, Mrs. Anna Maud Woodside, John Prohosky, Mrs. John Hughes and Harry Jaques. Since 1952, when records origin ated, 141 names have been placed in the unit’s memorial book, which is currently in Mrs. Piccbne’s pos session and open to inspection. It was also disclosed this week that Mrs. Piccone has been asked to serve on the Montana Division of Memorials committee, a branch of the state unit. Former Dillon Woman With Arizona U. Choir ^Cantata to Be Presented W e d n e s d a y 'A Christmas Cantata, entitled \Alleluia Christ is Bom,” will be presented Wednesday at. 8 p.m. by the Beaverhead High School music department in the high school au ditorium. The program will open with \Christmas Rhapsody,” a medley of popular Christmas carols played by the band, and include vocal se lections by the Teen Tones, mixed quartet and girls’ trio. Admission will be 75 cents for adults, 50 cents for students, and 25 cents for children, with all pro ceeds going toward the music de partment’s projects. A dictionary is a valued Christ mas gift. A ll price ranges. Dally Tribune-Examiner. Delia Perrault O f Sheridan Is Summoned Delia Perrault, 77, a Sheridan native, died Sunday in her home. Born Nov. 14, 1885, she was the daughter of Mark and Pamelia Perrault, who moved to Ruby Val ley in 1865. Miss Perrault was a talented ar tist and completed many outstand ing paintings during her life. She had lived in Sheridan all her life and was a graduate of Sheridan High School. Funeral services will be con ducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday In St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Patrick Stimatz officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Marsh Funeral Home.
