Settled in the New World, her ties with the old com p letely severed at last, reunited with her long-lost husband, Joffrey de Peyrac, and her children, the world should have seemed bright to Angelique. But something was wrong—it was as if mysterious forces from the past were insinuating themselves between Angelique and Joffrey. Onto the scene comes Am- broisine de Baudricourt, ship wrecked off the coast with a shipload o f fallen women on their way to marry settlers in the French colonies. Angelique befriends the new arrival, yet she cannot but notice that Joffrey seems overly interested in Am- broisine’s charms, and that her arrival has coincided with the commencement of a series of mysterious events that threaten Angelique’s marriage, her children, her very life. Soon there are whispers throughout the colony that Satan himself is present in Gouldsboro. “ The Gold of the Gods,” by Erich von Daniken. The author covered 76,000 miles and three continents developing new evidence to bolster his theory of a prehistoric earthly \era of the gods.” From a mysterious system of caves and tunnels in Ecuador to ancient ruins in the Caroline Islands the author explores the inexplicable artifacts of bygone ages. Elucidating un deciphered writings and drawings in solid gold which take us back in time to the Great Flood, he ultimately suggests an in- tergalactic “ battle of the gods” whose losers retreated to, and settled, our earth. “ Alias Big Cherry, v by Robert Adleman. This nearly incredible but true account relates the nefarious adventures of one o f the master swindler-criminals of this or any era. His estimated take was over $25 million before the law caught up with him. “ Big Cherry” or “ Cherry Hill Fats” is really Sylvan Scolnick, a seven-hundred-pound genius who developed bankruptcy into a science by playing on the greed of legitim ate businessmen. More than one hundred firms were set up and bankrupted by Big Cherry and his gang, and his thorough un derstanding of banking procedures enabled them to defraud numbers of banks and insurance companies. He master-minded the theft of an I.R.S.-sealed safe-deposit box from a bank vault. The box contained $100,000, but when he was ultimately taken to task for the caper, all he could be charged with was the theft of a $2.50 box. He lived in a grand style, giving ex pensive cars to friends. His scheme to take over and loot a $28-million department store chain collapsed in progress because of the inep titude of one of his henchmen. Big Cherry’s only comment was, “ Do you know how hard it is to get good help nowadays?” Smart Savers Profit 2 W a y s With Classified Ads! 1.
