L. Skalkop and G. F. Mc Kenzie of Smithsonian Institute. They are primarily concerned •with the territory that will be covered with the waters of the dam project now under consider ation but are likewise interested In other places of this region where ancient Indian finds have been made. Beaverhead county is a fertile Held for collector and hunters of Indian relics, thousands of arrow heads, stone weapons and imple ments having been found and pre served since the days of the gold rush. There are evidences through out the region that bring to light the theory that the Beaverhead river marked a trail from the Ore gon country to the eastern plains. FARM SAFETY IS PROCLAIMED FOR NEXT WEEK State Commissioner of Agricul ture Alfred R. Anderson has called attention to the large number of accidents on farms and ranches in Montana. Anderson’s statement accompanied a proclamation by Gov. John W. Bonner designating the week of July 23-29 as Mon tana Farm Safety Week. In his statement outlining the need for such a week, Anderson said, “The National Safety Coun cil estimates that each year farm people sustain 17,500 fatalities, 1.500.000 disabling injuries and 25.000 buildings destroyed by fire. Doormat Pilferer Exits Hurriedly Rowland M. Burroughs, a tran sient who mistook the word \wel come” on a doormat as meaning the owner was giving it away, ap peared before Judge George E. Baker yesterday who sentenced him to 100 days in jail but stayed the execution for an hour with the advice that Burroughs make tracks out of Beaverhead county. When last seen Burroughs was losing no time in getting as far away as possible from the judge before the one hour was up. It will pay you to keep a family budget. Temple was nominated by the Republicans in yesterday’s primary election and will seek re-election at the Nov. 8 general election. Lamar Hatton was nominated by the Democrats to oppose him. Boyd Quick won the Republican nomination for county treasurer and will be opposed by Joe E. Sprinkle on the Democratic ticket. Parke T. Scott is the Republi can nominee for commissioner «,f the second district and will be opposed by John Prohosky as the Democratic nominee. Attorney Don J. Smith is the Democratic nominee for represent ative and will be opposed by Re publican Jack Brenner, incumbent In other county offices there was no contests for nomination. For county attorney W. G. Gil bert, Jr., Republican incumbent will be opposed by Carl M. Davis, Democrat. Dora E.Smith, Republican, is un opposed on either ticket for clerk and recorder. Sylvester Meade, Republican, has no opposition for county assessor. Theo F. Bay, Republican, hai no opposition for county superin tendent. Raymond Schwartz, Democrat is unopposed for coroner. Nellie McFadden, Republcan, la unopposed for public administra tor. George E. Baker, Republican, and Mike Nettick, Democrat akk nominees for justice of the peace with two to be elected. HOW STATE RACE IS SHAPING UP In state offices Mike Mansfield, Incumbent, received 603 votes for the Democratic nomination fo r Congress in Beaverhead county to 39 votes for his opponents on that ticket. For the Republican nomination for Congress, McGinnis led the local ticket with 637 while Galasso had 500. For state treasurer John E. Henry led the Republican ticket for nomination while John E. Kennedy led the Democratic ticket. For railroad and public service commissioner Leonard C. Young led the Republican ticket and Hor ace F. Casey led the Democratic ticket. Mansfield won the Democratic nomination easily for Congress man in his district D’Ewart, the Republican incum bent for Montana’s other congres sional district, won the nomination handily. For state treasurer John E. Henry (R) and John E. Kennedy (D) were pratdcally conceded the nominations. For railroad commis sioner, Leonard C. Young (R) and Horace F. Casey (D) had big leads. For associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Forrest H. Ander son, Albert H. Angstman and Harry J. Freeborn were leading in that order with E. E. Collins and R. M.
