It means a bigger and better Ekalaka. __We do not expect to please everybody, because that's im- possible but we are going to try and merit a continuance of the liberal 'support most of you haft given us in the past Montana real estate is going to experience a boom the coming year. There is going to be a rush of settlers to Montana also, account of the new 640 grazing land law. Are you going to be benifited, That move for a standard time in Ekalaka is receiving much en- couragement, but there are still a few who want to be contrary and play the slacker. In the meantime, the official clock at June Olsen's keeps ticking on. United we stand, divided—the sheriff will get us. The business men of Ekalaka or any other community cannot prosper as they should if they are to divide _themselves in - to separate factions or knock the other fellows game. We've got to join hands and put our shoulders to the wheel. Let's call that our. New Years resolution and' commence plan- ning our boosting campaign. The farming land adjoining and tributary to Ekalaka is as good as can be found anywheres, bet- ter than most places and will command the high price when real estate begins to move. We have got the people; farmers who understand their business and who are progressive and business men who have proven their value to the comMunity in the past. As long as we can make an hon- est living at Ekalaka we intend to do our share with other boost- ers. Are you with u\ It seems to be the ger 1 be- lief in each cotihty that a certain ring or organization exist at the county seat, a ring that usually has considerable influence and to a certain extent dictates part of the county business—at least that part which pertains to how and where the improvements are to be made. We know that for some reason the money for irnprovements has not always been spent where most needed, Take the Ekalaka-baker road for an instance. Here is a high- way that is more traveled over probablf that any'Oth - er - road in the county, yet it is in far worse condition taday than it was back in the \cow trail\ days. That pciaion of it around the county seat is in good shape but what about the Medicine Rocks? We are placing our hopes for 'relief irdhe new board of county com- missioners. T._ F. Schofield, the new member of the board knows these conditions and together with Mr. Farwell, the south-end commissioner, will try and give us all 'a fait deal. S. the coal or other mineral deposits in. any such lands, or the right to mine and remove the same, may re- enter and occupy so much of the surface thereof as may be re- quired for all purposes reason- ably incident to the mining or re - - moval dill() coal or other miner- als, first, upon securing the written consent or waiver of the homestead entryman or patentee; second.- upon payment of the damages to crops or other tang- ible improvements to the owner' thereof, where agreement may be had as to the amount thereof, or, third, in lieu of either -of the foregoinir provisiohs, upon the execution of a gor snd sufkient bond or undertak ng' to the U.
