4 r - ( THE E1C . ALAKA EAGLE THE EKALAKA EAGLE Published Weekly at Ekalaka, Montana OLDESI I PAPER IN FALLON COUNTY, :-: O. A. DAHL, EDITOR. Entered as second-class matter. Janusus 1. Ow at the post 4glIce at Ekalaka. Montant.. under the Act of Marsh 8. 1879. Advertising rates made known upon application. Subscription Price, $2.00 Pc: Year In Advance VQI. 9. Friday, February 9, 1917 No. telligence, for knowledge and for , everything that pertains to know- ledge of social events.\ If this were the truth,' my dear Oscar, and we may thank God that it is not,, I fear that the intelligence of the readers of \the big biid\ would be eauivalent to that of 6. microbe. I much regret that the readers of the Eagle were de- prived of the inner pages of \their medium of intelligence\ and I sympathize with tbem, for I fully realize the necessity of an ample supply of paper on these cold stormy days and in the fu- ture I would advise you to mail each subscriber two copies in case the inner pap:es do not arrive. At the outset of winter, I real- ized that I was not qualified to give you the service you required and therefor went amongst your own people and secured a driver of your own caste, an Ekalakan for many years, but findine• him for many reasons too much like the editor of the big bird, I discharged him, and from all-that-I--can•-find by inquiring, this is the source of your infor- mation regarding feeding itraw to my horses which you think need a rest and good feed. Have you not eaten of the best foods, dear Oscar, and partaken of the best viands Ekalaka has to offer? Yet to look you in the face.it would appear that you too were on a straw diet. That is the way with my horses, they are well fee but do not show it. I take it from your assertion that I am — held responsible for train tieups on the Milwaukee railroad. If this be a case, then also give me credit for being more influential than even the editor of the Eagle. Tire reason your inner pages did not arrive WaS because they did not arrive in Baker and I doubt if they have yet, tho hired a freighter and held him here, three days waiting to hasten a parcel post special to the relief of Eagle readers. As a newspaper man it might be well for you to get some real \dope\ on conditions elsewhere than in your own narrow domain. Yes- terday was the first train carry- ing parcel post in any quantity since a 1,veek ago. Must I make a special trip to Minneapolis or the coast to get your \inner pag- es\ to you on time? • If I must then I will admit that I deserve more criticism than I have thus far been given but criticism of a mail carrier is a chronic habit with many Ek- alnkans vod the result is that it drops as water on a duck's back. I 2.gain regret that I have not been able tc; please you but sin- cerely promise that I will try my best to do so in future and en- deavor to give the Eagle their in- ner pages and also my horses something' to eat besides wheat straw. I remain the humble ser- vant of the Ekalaka Eagle and its subscribers. A. le. LOCKHART \OUr Inner Sides\ Wednesday evening the mail from the railroad brought in just three letters for Ekalaka parties. As we happened to be one of the lucky ones, we're going to split 50-50 with you and publish our communication. Dated at Baker 9n Feb. 6th and addressed to the editor, it continues: - \It behooves me to acknow- ledge receipt of the last issue of ' the Ekalaka Eagle, and reading therein a pert little paragraph, I now- sit with much amusement, at the beautiful arrangement in which you put the \cokractor of the Ekalalia mail service\. At a recent banquet given by an editor's association, the following toast was given to a newly ad• mitted member, \The commun- ity owes much of its educational and social intelligence to the country editor who must be a broad minded and impartial in- structor, forit is upon the issues of his paper that the people of his community depend for in - Seasoned Pine Lumber Makes Good No matter what kind'of a frame building you want to construct I can furnish you the lumber.
