• irita EKALAKA FACILE In OuriTown rHE LIFE OF THE TOWN This busy gent is a Booster and the Life of the Town. Without him and a few others, the Old Burg would be as Dead as a Doornail. He's Jerry on the Job for the Public Good and his name heads every Subscription paper to Raise Money for anything. We couldn't do without him. Long may he Wave 'Course everyone's going to the firemen's dance, Attorney Chas. Dousman was over from Baker yesterday. J. C. Cory and Ralph Keener were over from Baker yesterday for a little visit with friends. If you want a photograph of your ranch or your baby, ad- dress J. F. Lewis, Ekalaka. tf Don't miss the firemens dance at The Play House next Friday evening. Its sure to be a pop- per. Mr. and Mrs. Mat Carey left Tuesday for a weeks' visit with relatives in North Dakota and Minnesota. Postoffice Inspector Fitzgerald , of Spokane Wufit here this week checking up the local office. He found Postmaster Booth's office as Al. Good residence lots for sale. Also one standard bred register- ed stallion, work mare, saddle horses and milch cows. Inquire J. P. Hedges. 7 20 tf \The Butcher's Boy\ featur- ing \Fatty\ Arbuckle will be shown next Thursday evening with the regular Paramount pro- gram at the Play House. It's bound to please. 1 t A. B. Lindberg has returned from a trip to Miles City. Bro. Bill of the Alzada Fair - play and \Shorty\ Gilliard were visitors in town yesterday. Bro. Bill discovered, we believe, the necessity for a court house in Ekalaka. It's the funny things in life that make us all more contented. \Fatty\ furnishes lots of fun in his screen plays, the next one to appear at the Play House next Thursday evening. Are we go- ing? Sure! • lt Wm. Gerner of near Chausse was in town'Wednesday, and he informed us that he was going to endeavor to enlist in the avia- tion corps of Uncle Sam's big new army and become a nerve wrecker amongst the Kaiser's forces across the sea. Jerry Huss returned yesterday from San Diego, Cal., where for the past three months he has been training in the navy. Along with a number of other young men Jerry was given his dis- charge from the service, the cause in each instance being that their feet were not up to the standard on account of broken arches. Jerry attributes his case and that of the other boys to the strenuous training at San Diego, where he says they were train- ing in the old exposition grounds on cement pavement most of the time. Jerry is very much disap- pointed in not being able to do his bit by actual service for Un- cle Sam, but rules is rules and must be followed. A number of the neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Carnahan of the Prairie Dale neighborhood gathered at that home Monday and put in the day with mowerF, rakes, etc., putting up hay. Tuesday morning several of them came back and finished up the work, which resulted in putting up several nice stacks. The ladies of the helpful haying crew came along and served lunch to the men. Certainly Mr. Carna- han, who is ill, and his wife, ap- preciated the efforts of the neigh- bors and feel that they reside in a model neighborhood. This oc- casion of thoughtfulness on the part of the neighbors in that sec- tion is but one of the many that occur amongst the people of this section who always try and make their communities a better place in which to live. Friday Night, Aug. 24th Is the Big Night of the Semi -Annual Firemens Big Dance 'Member those dances when everybody has a popping good time, besides giving our local Volunteer Department a boost? The Play House is the place August 24th the date Remember it. WHY . I Send to Savage When you can buy just as reasonable at BEN DAVIS' CASH HARDWARE Come and See Next The Eagle Office \Kickers\ Meeting Mondtiy and Tuesday were \kickers\ day at the court house, Commissioners Hobbs and Snow meeting as the board of equali- zation for the adjustment of the assessments throughout t h e county. Quite a large number of the taxpayers from over the county were present to argue their cases, and we understand that in nearly all cases matters were adjusted to the satisfaction of those concerned. J. Munro Injured Jarnes Munro, chairman of the board of county commissioners, was taken to Miles City on Mon- day for medical attention, and is at this time confined in the Miles City hospital. Mr. Munro was picked up last Friday near his place unconscious, and it has not been ascertained whether a horse fell on him or whether he received a shock from lightning. It was thought blood poisoning was setting in, hence his remov- al to the hospital. By reason' of this accident Mr. Munro was un- able to attend the meeting of the board this week. We under- stand that his case has not been fully decided at Miles City, and it may be that Mr. Munro is far from being on the road to re- covery at this time. Later—Just before going to press (Thursday afternoon) a telephone message from Dr. Bus- kirk at Miles City stated that Mr. Munro was not expected to live, peritonitis having set in. Miss Mina Munro, Mrs. R. H. Ferguson arid Mrs. Chas. Pickard sisters and Mr. and Mrs. R. Munro, Sr. parents left imme- diatly for Miles City. Another Fact The Beaver Valley Press, while chosen the official county paper by our distinguished board of county commissioners, is making a sad failure of living up to its boastfulness of being the official county sheet and Ekalaka's best newspaper. While it is a fact that the board has had several meetings of late, both as com- missioners and the board of equalization, the B. V. P. read- ers certainly failed to learn of them through that paper. In speaking of commissioners' pro- ceedings the Press did have a little over a half column of \dope\ of this kind in its last issue, but it happened to be a record of the doings of the Fal- lon county board. In the name of common sense, why don't the Press give home news instead of foreign. Surely the financial, political and moral supporters of the Press must realize their sad mistake in the adoption of the newspaper misfortune up the street.
