Hammer of Utica, was a guest at the Hotel Stanford for dinner Friday. He was enroute home from Great Falls, where he had been to visit his wife who is yet very ill at the Deaconess hospital. County Treasurer Grant E. Robin- son on Tuesday paid out of the funds of school district No. 12 $3,- 000 to satisfy the judgment held by W. S. Kingsley against the district. Payment was made on an order of the court to do so. P. J. O'Hara, mayor of Geyser, and one of the best and most consistent -of the Montana school of boosters, was a passenger on the south -bound Billings & Northern train Wednes- day enroute to Deliver, where he was called by the illness of a broth- er. United States Commissioner Montana Weather Compares Favorably with the East Those of our friends who have but recently come to this state, and have recently had their weather modesty shocked by the inpropriety tild apparent indecency displayed hy fair and lovely spring in tarrying in an incumbent state in the lap of rude and horrid winter, may find in recent press dispatches a balm for their outraged feelings by reading therein that it is not alone in Mon- tana that this indelicacy is shown. On Thursday an tinprecidented cold wave was prevalent all oyer the United States. Ulinois exper- ienced the worst storm in its history. A weather resume from New York City for the month of April gives the metropolis just one warm day, but Thursday furnished the climax when snow fell as if in dead of win- ter, breaking the record for inclem- ency for the last eighteen years. At Pittsburg, Pa., everythitig was buried under 10 inches of snow and it was still Coming. Kansas came up with her usUal quota of toradoes, deaths from exposure and other weeter ca- lamities. And Nebraska got her's. Indiatia and Michigan froze up. Iowa had a merry time with wind and hail. Down south in Texas and Arkansas they got a plenty of every kind of the worst ever. Montana was a little chilly, it is true, but she maintained her posi- tion at the head of the list of de- sirable residence states. Linemen's Grand Ball on Friday, May 7th F. M. Clark, who has charge of the telephone construction in Stanford, announces that on Friday evening, May 7th, the telephone employes will give a grand ball in Stanford at Mitchell's hall, the dance to be known as the \linemen's ball.\ An enjoyable occasion is assured, with excellent music in attendance, and a sumptuous repast at the Davis cafe. The Stanford Concrete Construc- tion company has recently pur- chased a lot adjoining the railway right-of-way and have received two carloads of sand, from Great Fails with which to begin operations.
