With an unknown start date, The Broadwater Opinion was initially published by The Townsend Publishing Company in 1910. On Dec 7, 1910, H.A. Clay bought out the company and sole owner and editor. He moved the paper in a more political direction. Under Clay and later J M Cummins, who bought the paper from Clay in March 1912, The Broadwater Opinion was a staunch Republican paper. Notable is the strong stance taken in favor of President Taft during the 1912 presidential election against both Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt. When not discussing politics, the Opinion focuses on local news both business and social.
