The result evidently heralds an awakening el the public mind to the tact that the real party In which Am ericans are interested as a unit is the American party, wnose backbone and sole platform is the prosperity ol the man who tills the soil aud keeps the world alive. Twenty years ago no one could conceive a democratic farmer rejoic ing at the election of »republican to congress, but likewise 20 years ago we could not .conceive Illinois listen ing to the opera in New York as per radio today. The world moves. Blind partisan ship is giving way to common sense aud we are coming to see that such matters as the national budget and the tariff are not properly placed in the sphere of politics. The farm is in the category of national factors that must be safeguarded and devel oped regardless of party if the ua Uon is to progress, and fortunatel the farmer has sensed this fact for himself. While the great, cities have poked a great deal of fun at the farmer and smiled at his ingenious sliuplic ity, seemingly he if the only force in American life that has displayed enough common sense to organize along intelligent lines and sufficient acumen to make good. The legislative success of the farm er may be traced more than anythin else to the fact that it has bee bused on justice and is for the com mon good.--Silver State.
