This bill doubles the present license fee. • The first damage suit against the Northern Pacific as a result of the Young's Point wreck on the 23th of eptember to be settled is that of the S. Shunowita heirs. A settlement has been reached out of court which pro- vides for the cash payment it; the Slum- owitz heirs of $1.5,000. Claim agents of the Northern Pacific have been in Billings much of the time since Jan- uary 1st endeavoring to reach settle- ments with other claimants, but up to the present this is the only case set- tled. For some time past business( in the local land office has been practically at a standstill, owing to the 'resignation and retirement from duty of the for- mer receiver, C. C. Bever. Since his resignation no money has been received and but little business has been trans- acted in the way of homestead filings and final proofs. The appointment of Wm. Enright as receiver to till the vacancy will restore business condi- ti ins. His appointment has been sent to the senate and confirmed and now - ini soon as his band Can be arranged and approved he will enter upon his duties. This done. in connection with Acting Register Jackson, he, will take up ell land business coming before the ethce and dispose of much accumulated and untinished besiness.
