Reports from over the state are to the effect that the loss of stock during the storm and cold weather of the first of the month was extremely light. Ferguson Bros., of the Bozeman country, have filed on homesteads en the bench southwest of Hardin. They are old acquaintances of D. B. Ken- nedy. The past week has witnessed some real old Montana weather. Much of the snow has disappeared and the coal man is not as happy as he used to be. The chinook clime and did its work well. J. W. Harris has entered upon his duties as register of the Billings land office and it is safe to say that the accumulated business will be speedily disposed of and the work of the office kept up to date in the future. L. H. Fenske of 13illings will take charge of the Hotel Bar on Ft , ' ruary 1st. Mrs. Anna Roe, of Wellborn, S. D., arrived in Hardin the first of the week on a visit with her mother, Mrs. Tom - son, and other relatives. Booth, who spent considerable time in Hardin last summer and fall, returned Wednesday morning from quite a stay in the Black Hills. Mr. Booth likes , Hardin and the surround- ing country and will unquestionably decide to locate permanently. An effort is being made in the Wyom- ing state legislature te pass a law pro- hibiting the sale of liquors outside of incorporated towns. The object of the law is to tio away with road ranch saloons, at which places most of the crimes in that state have been com- mitted. George C. Moose has leased 400 acres of Indian land on the Little Horn four miles north of Crow Agency and moved his family to that place. He is said to have secured an excellent tract . and with years of experience as a practical farmer and irrigator will make good. On Wednesday night he gave a dance in the new home, which was well attended.
