Mitchell were both under the care of Dr. Richards from Saturday until Tuesday, both having tonsilitis. John Bennett. 'of .Juliet, came down Wednesday night for a visit with his son, Sam, who has a ranch twelve miles north of Hardin. He was crazy about her until he got her. Then she ran away with his chauffeur and he said: \What a pity; he was such a good chauffeur!\ The state senate has passed the Dor- ian alleged primary election bill for the selection of United States senators. Now just watch the house put the fixin's to it. J. W. Scott, of the Bacheller-Scott lumber company. left the latter part of last week for his former home at La- Crosse, Wis., on a visit to Mrs. Scott 1 and the children. J. W. Hutton was called to Ran - IL - chaster the first of the week by the 1 serious illness of iiasson, John Hutton. . ! He returned Wednesday and reports I his son improving. Mr. and Mrs. Mills. of Sheridan. were visitors in Hardin Monday. Mr. Mills is connected with the Sheridan Post. He was looking over this section with a view to future investments. J. W. Johnston_ has just received a car of wheat, oats, corn, bran and shorts, and corn and oat chops. Al- falfa, bluestem and timothy hay on hand all the time. Order your alfalfa seed now. Loins Kennedy, of Bozeman. Mont., a brother of D. B. Kennedy, is visiting the latter and family this week, and looking over the country with the et- peetation of locating and engaging in business. February 19th is the date set for the farmer's institute meeting in Hardin. Prof. Cooley and other noted agricul- turists and dry farm experts will be iv attendence. Don't forget the date and be sure to attend. If Prof. Burbank would turn his wonderful talent toward the propaga- tion of a race of warm -footed women, a lot of spine -chilled husbands would crown him king of all humanitarians, says Byron Williams. A. E. and Harry Calahan came up from Foster Wednesday night and spent Thursday in the city. They ac- companied Mrs. Harry Calahan as far as Hardin, where she took the train for St. Joseph, Mo., on a visit to her par- ents. MacDonald & Mouat completed till- ing their ice hoarse Saturday night. They estimate their _pack at 300 tam , . A. Becker and Mrs. Anderson filled their homes this week, making the ice supply for use in Hardin next summer probably 500 tons. Many improvements will he made by the Builington between , Lodge Grass and Huntley during the year of 1909. Half a million dollars will be spent in laying new and heavier rails on the main line and in providing additional switches, coal sheds, water tanks, bridges, etc. Increased traffic over the line has made the piarposed improve- ments; necessary. 1round hexing contest at Billings Tufts - day night. The contestants were Tony (7aproni of Chicago and Eddie McGoor- ty of Oshkosh, Wis. The bout ended in a draw. Mr. and Mrs. Gwen F. Burla enter- tained a small party at whist and luncheon Wednesday night. Those present were Commissioner's Newman and Cramer, Mrs. R J. Lavine, Mr and Mrs. E. H. Rathhone, Miss Mabel Aketarom and Mr. Cedergren. General Warren, who was chosen to carry Montana's electoral vote to Washington is facing the certainty of a fine in the amount of $1,000 for fail- ure to deliver the vote within the time specified. The time for delivery ex- pired Monday noon and the law im- poses a tine of $1,000 for non -delivery of the vote within the tire specified. Gen- eral Warren sent the electoral vote to Washington by registered mail and is unable to explain why it did not reach its destination in time. He announces that he will be in Washington on. Feb- ruary 1 10 to cast the vote in the elec- toral college. A. W. Miller, president of the hoard of assessors of Cook county, 1118., rived in Hardin yesterday morning on a visit to his old friends, Frank and George Brandt, who have ranches on the east side of the Big Born north of Hardin. Mr. Miller has visited this locality on two previous oa1881ong and is certain it is the best country in the west. He has held his present position in Cook county for the past ten years and still has four years to serve. At present he is prominently mentioned for sheriff of that county and it is Very likejy that he will be chosen at the next election. Mr. Miller will doubt-, less become interested financially in this vicinity and will unquestionably be a factor in pushing its development. Notice of Election. Notice is hereby given that an elec- tion of the qualified voters of School District No. 17, of Yellowstone county, Montana, will be held at the School House of said district on the 20th day of February, 1909, for the purpose of voting upon the following proposition: Shall bonds be issued and sold to the amount of Seven Thousand Dollars ($7,000.00) and bearing not. to., exceed Six (6) per cent inteierst. and for a period not to exceed twenty years, for the purpose of purchasing a school lot .and building a school house thereon, and furnishing the same.
