r. Heron Chat and Act Club Observes National Home Demonstration Week By Mrs. M. H. Larson HERON -In observance of National Home Demonstration club week and also Mother's day the local club invited their older daughters and other older girls in the community for an even- ing at the lunchroom F,riday. As it was the regular club night a short business meeting was held. All present responded to roll call by saying \something special they remembered about their mother.\ As there are so many school activities coming up the rest of the month it was decided to can- cel the next club meeting May 22. Instead the next regular meeting will be June 12 when Mrs. Frank Vanek will be the hostess. Project of the evening was the making of boutonnieres out of crepe paper, under the direc- tion of Mrs. Herbert Tillapaugh. Refreshments of ice cream and cookies were served by Mrs. Fay Rasmussen and Mrs. Albert Lunnen. Guests included Mrs. Wade Gentry of Royal City, Wash., Mrs. F. E. MacSpadden, Mrs. Clarence Wilson, Mrs. Bob Sellemr, Pinky and Kay Rasmus- sen, Irene Sellmer, Sharon and Eileen Groff, Sharon Shields, Norma Jones, Ann Tillapaugh, Dolores Weber, Nelda Nunnen, Viola Runkle, and Laura Harker. PTA to Elect A meeting will be held at the gym Friday evening to elect officers for a Parent-Teacher organization. Heron Briefs Mrs. J. H. Harker was able to return from the Bonner Gener- al hospital at Sandpoint the first part of last week. She had been confined there for several days suffering from the flu. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Dana of Spokane spent Mother's day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. E. MacSpadden. Bill Sellmer motored to Spo- kane Thursday for repairs for his truck. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fishbaugh of Cabinet visited at the Cecil Groff home Wednesday evening. Pfc. Boyd Lunnen, who is stationed at Ft. Bliss, Tex., ar- rived home Monday for a 19 -day furlough. Mrs. Jesse W. Lee left Friday for Stevensville to spend the weekend with her mother, Mrs. B. Faucett, and other relatives. Mrs. M. H. Larson left Satur- day for Missoula to spend a few days with her sister and bro- ther-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. LeBert. Mr. and Mrs. Wade Gentry and son of Royal City, Wash. arrived Friday for a short visit with the Carl Shields. They lived at Clark Fork during the building of the Cabinet Gorge dam. County Supt. 0. P. Kendall was at the school two days last week giving achievement tests to the four upper grades. Mrs. Bill Sellmer and Mrs. Don Sharp wish to thank all who helped to make the benefit dance for Clayton Syth a success. He undergoes a delicate heart operation this month. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Mortensen of Spokane took her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bertel Flolo to Spo- kane a week ago Monday for medical checkups. Mrs. Morten- sen accompanied her parents here on the bus Tuesday, return- ing to Spokane that evening. Syth, and JoNell Payne were married at El Monte, Calif. April 11, and are making their home in that city. Jack Koeneman enlisted in the Navy last week and has been sent to San Diego, Calif. Mrs. Frances Dodge took her five -year -old son, Jon, to the Bon- ner General hospital at Sand- point a week ago Sunday night as he was hemorrhaging. His sister, Deanna, accompanied them and remained at the hospi- tal with him. She returned home Wednesday when Mrs. Dodge went in to be with him. Jon had to have a blood transfusion as he had several more severe nose- bleeds in the hospital. Mrs. Dodge was able to bring him home Sunday but he will have to remain in bed for a week and then be fairly quiet for some time. A meeting of the Sunday school teachers was held at the Floyd Veach home after school Wednesday. Plans were discus- sed for a Bible school the first two weeks in June. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones at- tended a meeting of the Lat- ter Day Saints church at Mis- soula Sunday. Miss Sharon Shields was crowned queen at the junior prom at Noxon Saturday even- ing. Expenses for attending the retreat will be paid by the society. Plans for a picnic to be held Sunday following Mass were made by members.
