Although spotted fever is not the cause for concern that it was years ago, it is still a problem in some areas. It can be treated quite successfully with antibio- tics today, so many county heal- th departments do not stock serum for vaccination purposes. If ticks are a problem around the lawn or yard they can be controlled by applying DDT, tox- aphene, chlordane, or dieldrin sprays at the rate of one to two pounds of actual material per acre. To get good coverage, about 15 to 20 gallons per acre on grass and 50 gallons per acre in brushy areas is required. Visit Son at MSU EAST NOXON-Mr. and Mrs. Paul H.
