Mrs. Mary Davenport spent the weekend in Ronan and Poi- son visiting friends. She went with friends to the Cherry Blos- som festival dance also. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Jacklin left here last weekend for Poison where they will live for the pre- sent. They have purchased some lots overlooking Flathead lake. Mr. and Mrs. K. C. Zimmer- man, Nancy and Robert, will spend the weekend in LaCrosse, Wash. with the former's cousin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Camp aid sons. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lane left early Saturday morning to spend the weekend at their cabin on Flathead lake. They also attend- ed the Cherry Blossom festival dance Saturday evening. Bob Baxter visited his par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Baxter over the weekend. He ac- companied John Clark, who visit- ed his brothers, Mark and Bob and his family. Both returned to MSC in Bozeman Sunday. Floyd Raab, who was released from St. Patrick's hospital in Missoula about a week ago, is moving to Idaho Falls to make his home with his son, George. He had been living in his trailer house at the Big Pine court for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Racicot and children of Libby visited Mr. and Mrs. Con Bentley and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Racicot here Sunday and also their sisters and fami- lies, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Guld- seth and Mr. and Mrs. Al Williams. Mrs. Ermel Hanson and Gary arrived here Friday from the Far East where Gary had been with his uncle, Loren Fessler, since last fall. Mrs. Hanson left here the middle of March to visit there before returning home with Gary. Jon Babcock, who accompanied Gary, was to return here this week also. Cancer Drive Receives $295 Contributions to the 1959 American Cancer society fund drive in Thompson Falls totaled $295.62, Mrs. Stephen D. Bab- cock, chairman, has announced. Mahoney, who will be a bride of June 6, will be honored at a public wedding shower Monday evening at 6 p.m. in the woman's clubhouse. All friends of the bride -elect and her parents are invited to participate. Dancers to Attend Missoula Festival A number of couples from the Wagon Wheelers Square Dance club are planning to attend the square dance festival in Missoula this weekend. Planning to attend are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lane, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Blake, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Oertli, Mr. and Mrs. Ben G. Cox and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Stephanson. The latter couple will take their children and visit Mrs. Stephanson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Nickerson, while there. Several other couples may attend also. BPW Attend Libby Confab Six members of the Thompson Falls BPW club drove to Libby Sunday where they attended the spring conference of the district and the annual emblem cere- mony. Making the trip were Miss June Thayer newly elected pre- sident, Mrs. Harvey Hotzel, im- mediate past president, Mrs. Norm Lovhaug, Mrs. Leonard Lovhaug, Mrs. Susan Thayer and Mrs. Don Campbell. Seaway Stamp Due June 27 A 4 -cent St. Lawrence Seaway commemorative postage stamp will go on sale at the Thom- pson Falls post office June 27, N. J. LaFriniere, postmaster„ has announced. A stamp identical in design, except for the necessary changes in caption and denomination, is being released simultaneously at Ottawa, Canada. The stamp will be in red and blue on white paper and carries tire emblems of both nations, the maple leaf for Canada and the eagle for the United States. Grange to Clean Cemetery May 24 Plans for a clean-up day for the Wild Rose cemetery to be held Sunday, May 24 were made at a meeting of the Thompson Falls Grange Friday evening with Master Dan Doty and Over- seer Harry Lanz presiding. Members are asked to bring tools for clean-up day, something for a pot -luck dinner and plate, cup and silverware. Walter Zook was installed as- sistant steward with Orin P. Kendall acting as installing of- ficer. Mrs. R. H. Cornett presented a report on a health plan meet- ing she attended at Helena re- cently. The lecturer's hour presented by Dan Doty consisted of a quiz for mothers, a violin solo by Freda Miller and a skit by Mrs. Harry Lanz and Mr. Doty. Lunch was served to about 30 members and children by Mr. and Mrs. Kendall. Power City 4-H Club Meets How to make baked custard was the main project of the Power City Boosters 4-H club at the meeting Saturday at the home of Mrs. Archy Tobiska. A game was played and Colleen Andrews continued sewing on ( her skirt. Members discussed participating in Rural Life Sunday. Members will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tobiska home. Mail Schedules Remain Same Time changes in the arrivals of trains 1 and 2 will not effect the mail closing times now in effect at the Thompson Falls post office, N. J. LaFriniere, postmaster, announced Monday. The new schedules went into ef- fect Sunday. The eastbound train now ar- rives at 12:10 p.m., five minutes earlier than previously while the evening westbound train arrives three minutes later at 6:23 p.m. All airmail deposited at the local post office goes west for dispatching from Spokane, La- Friniere said. Mixed League Banquet Planned Awards for the Ball and Chain mixed bowling league will be presented Friday night at the league's annual banquet at the Thompson River Ranch, accord- ing to secretary, Mrs. Ernest Huffman, who will present all awards except the first place trophies. Mrs. Earl Oliver and Mrs. Stephen Babcock are in charge of arrangements for the banquet with all members, substitutes and their husbands and wives in- vited. Following the banquet, elec- tion of officers for next year will be held with Ted Mellinger pre- senting a slate of nominees. Dr. C. E. Rosdahl, treasurer, will present the league's annual financial report. Chorus Receives Excellent Rating The .Girls chorus of Thomp- son Falls High school, under the direction of Larry Coloff, high school music instructor, received an excellent rating at the all - state music festival at Montana State university Saturday. Shepard SANDE\ COUNTY Installed as Head Of Woman's Club Mrs. Harold Shepard was in- stalled president of the Thomp- son Falls Woman's club for the 1959-60 season at the final meet- ing of the club held Thursday noon in the clubhouse. Others installed were Mrs. M. J. Sul- livan, vice-president, Mrs. James Anderson, secretary, Mrs. K. W. Harvey, treasurer and Mrs. Melt Sutherland, trustee. Installing of- ficer was Mrs. George Rohwer. A spring luncheon was serv- ed by Mesdames Glenn Larson, Harold Jensen and Al Libra. In- dividual potted geraniums were used as centerpieces and in- dividual lace doilies marked the places. Mrs. Richard Heater present- ed the program entitled, The Play Is the Thing,\ in which she played back a recording made unknown to members during the luncheon and meeting. Two members from the club, Mrs. Stephen D. Babcock and Mrs. Robert Clark, were present- ed as nominees for Mrs. America from Thompson Falls. Judging is based on homemaking skills, cooking, baking and table set- ting. Local ,Woman's Grandson High Shelton (Mike) Williams, a senior in Libby High school and grandson of Mrs. Martha Cross of Thompson Falls, won top hon- ors among 10 Libby students who participated in the High School week scholarship tests at Montana State college at Boze- man recently. Mike's rating placed him among the highest 57 students of the 600 taking the tests from all over the state. As a result of Mike's high scholastic record earned in high school, he has been offered scholarships at 12 different col- leges and universities and has accepted a $1400 scholarship to Dartmouth college where he in- tends to begin his pre -law course next fall. His mother, the former Madge Cross, attended Thompson Falls schools. At Flathead Lake Mr. and Mrs. Robert Heater will come home today from their cabin on Flathead Lake where they have been since Saturday. VAl°1 you buy! The smorgasbord will be serv- ed at the Trout Creek school lunchroom from 6 to 9 p.m. and the dance will follow in the Trout Creek Community hall starting at 9 p.m. Don Hill and E. Proceeds from the smorgas- bord and dance will be given to and dance. Move to Spokane Mrs. Tom Elmer and son, Tommy, left this morning for Spokane where they will make their home. The Elmers lived here about four years while Mr. Elmer did carpentry work on the dam. Tommy was employed at Lee's Cash Store until several months ago when he underwent surgery.
