DISASTROUS FIRE—The fire that destroyed the Conrad bank building in Kalispell Mnoday reminded local residents of a fire that burned out a portion of the business block on Main street about 1920. Rosdahl and the Thompson Drug Co. Heron Boy Injures Hand in Wringer By Mrs. M. H. Larson HERON—While his mother, Mrs. Clarence Wilson, was out of the room Wednesday\; little Patrick turned the washing machine wringer on and got his hand in it. The four fingers went in up to the wrist. The thumb was bent back and kept his hand from going farther. His parents took him to Sandpoint for medical attention. The flesh between the thumb and fore- finger was torn badly and the thumb was so swollen it was not determined whether the thumb was dislocatedor broken. Further medical attention will be needed when the swelling has subsided. HD Club Meets The Heron Chat and Act club met at the lunchroom Friday evening. The project for the evening was working on copper pictures under the direction of Mrs. Jesse W. Lee. These will be completed at the next meeting. More material will be available if anyone wishes to start more pictures then. The next meet- ing will be Sept. 25 when secret sisters will be revealed and new ones drawn. It is hoped that all members will be present at that time. Mail Routes Awarded Mrs. James Fishbaugh of Cabinet was given the contract for the mail route from Noxon to Dettwilers, five days a week, and twice a week to Mickey Weares on Bull river and three days a week to the Noxon dam housing. Sam Schlicht of Clark Fork was awarded the Clark Fork to Heron route. Heron Briefs Mr. and Mrs. Larry Larkin and children of Noxon and their house guests, Miss DeLoa Albano and Chub Cline, who are both in the marines in California, were supper guests at the Fay Rasmussen home Thursday DANCE FRIDAY, SEPT. 18 Trout Creek Community Hall Music By the BAR - B - Q RANCH BOYS evening. Behmerwohld ac- companied them on their return and went on to El Monte, Calif. to stay with her daughter, Mrs. Billy Syth, for a couple weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Willy Sellmer re- turned Saturday from Zillah, Wash. where they had been stay- ing at the Jay Albano home the past few weeks. George M. Larson arrived Tuesday from Spokane to visit his mother, Mrs. M. H. Larson, and his sister and family, the Ernie Webers, this week. He left Monday evening to return to Seattle. Miss Betty MacSpadden left Wednesday for Salinas, Calif., whre she teaches home econo- mics in a high school. She was accompanied by her sister and brother-in-law, the Dick Danas, who will visit there briefly be- fore returning to Spokane. Mr. and Mrs. David Syth and daughter, Dawn, arrived Friday from Metaline, Wash. They plan to live here as David has work at the Noxon dam. Several turned out to haul rock Saturday to be used in mounting the old school bell. A pot luck lunch was served by the ladies at noon. Another work meeting will be held Saturday. Any help will be greatly appreci- ated. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Clayton re- turned Wednesday from a two- week visit with relatives and friends at Wenatchee and the coast. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Mac- Spadden, Judy, Donald and Douglas of Spokane spent the Labor day weekend with his par- ents. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Mac- Spadden. N. Mex. when he was crushed by a big roller on which he was working. Funeral services were conducted Monday at his home in Tennessee. Mrs. Joyce and daughter. Jane, plan to return to their home in New Mexico for the present until further plans are made. Couple Celebrate 50th Anniversary HERON—Mr. and Mrs. Wil- ham K. Syth of El Monte, Calif. celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 6 at the home of their son ,Arthur, and family. A dinner was given in their honor with a number of rela- tives present. A beautifully de- corated four -tier cake was bak- ed by Mrs. Francis Shouden of Clark Fork. Relatives and families pre- sent were: Mr. and Mrs. Ted Syth, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Cal- vert, Sandpoint; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Syth, Mr. and Mrs. Ger- ald Syth, Heron; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rowe, Missoula; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Esler, Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Rowe, Noxon; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Syth, Dover, Ida.; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Syth, Clark Fork; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Syth, Libby; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Be- hemrwohld, Spokane; Mr. and Mrs. Duane Syth. Coeur d' Alene. Also present were Mrs. Fran- ces Shouden and two daughters of Clark Fork. Two daughters, Esther and May, and three sons, Lyle, Billy and Vernon, were unable to at- tend. The firm paid $7,040 for 323,- 600 board feet on the .Peek flat, across the river from Thomp- son Falls and paid $12,088 for 928.560 board feet of timber in the Graves creek bluffs area. The firm was the only bidder for both sales. Watters Brothers currently are shipping much of their lum- ber to Newton, Ia., where Jerry, / the younger brother, has estab- lished a retail outlet. He hasj been in Iowa for several months and will probably be there an- other year acording to his bro--i tiler, Billy. SANDERS COUNTY LEDGER Daughter Born Mr. and Mrs. James Dean of Snider have announced the birth of a daughter, Victoria Anne, at St. Patrick hospital in Missoula early Tuesday morning. The baby girl weighed 6 lbs. 11 ozs. and joins three brothers, James, Dickie and Mike.
