BLUE HAWKS PREPARING FOR LEAGUE OPENER Still smarting from a 43 to 51 defeat at the hands of the Ron- an Chiefs in the opening game of the annual Poison invitation- al tournament Friday night, the Thompson Falls Blue Hawks be- gan three weeks of practice this week to prepare for their first Northwest division conference game against Mission here Sat- urday, Jan. 2. The Hawks polish- ed off the Bulldogs 57 to 50 in the consolation game of the Poison meet Saturday night. Coach Previs said he plans to schedule daily practice ses- sions during the holidays to pre- pare the Hawks for their first conference tilt. Ronan captured the tourna- ment championship by wallop- ing Poison 60 to 37 in the finals. The Hawks were as cold as a Frazier, Colo, morning when they faced Ronan. They were able to tally only one point in the first period. After the inter- mission, they roared back to score 22 points in the third period, but it wasn't enough to overcome the earlier lead built up by the Chiefs. Against St. Ignatius, Coach Steve Previs' charges forged ahead toward the end of the third period and maintained a narrow lead the rest of the contest. Wally Page paced the Hawk scoring with 13 points against Mission while Jeff Wol- laston topped Thompson Falls scoring with 11 against Ronan. ; The Hawks were defending champions in the meet.
