POPL » m i J - « Northern Light Lodge £75 of Poplar elected officers at the December Iith meet- ing. Vern Ostlund was elected Worshipful Master for the coming year. Other officers elected were Senior Warden, Ted Nees; Junior Warden, Howard Smith; Secretary, Don Zimmerman; Treasurer, Buster Zimmerman; Appointees were: Senior Deacon, Ray Whipky; Junior Deacon, Jack Demko; Senior Stewart, Harold Iverson; Junior Stewart, Werren Kelsey; Tyler, Conrad Kopperman . Instructor is Florn Martin. Installation was held on 8th, 1970. Ed Jersen of Wolf Point was installing officer. Outgoinging Worshipful Master was Don Zimmerman. BILL GOES TO SENATE FOR FUNDS The House passed a bill to permit the distribution of judgment funds among the Sioux tribe of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Mont. The bill, sent to the Senote, would authorize the per capita distribution of $1,110,354 and the establish- ment of a $50,000 fund for reservation development . There are about 4,500 mem- bers of the tribe who will share the money won from the federal government for the taking of land. AR SHOPPER ~~: POST OFFICE BOX 1028 59255 PHONE FIRING SQUAD TO MEET The Poplar Legion Firing Squad will hold a meeting and drill Monday, January 26th at 8:00 p.m. in the Legion Hall. Three new members joined and two old members rejoined at the reorganizational meeting last Monday, also they have a half dozen more prospective members. The invitation still stands to anyone wishing to become a member. Just show up this Monday . All members are asked to bring their uniforms, as we will be ordering new sizes, “seems like we have - all grown in the past 13 years. Any former and all members who have been issued rifles please bring them down Monday so we can check the serial numbers and re- issue them. SEEYOU MONDAY. SAVIOR FUNERAL HELD Alvin Savior, lifetime resident of Poplar died in a home fire Jan. 15. Services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Lindsey Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Gene Harbough officiating. Survivors in- clude a son, Sam, in the Marine Corps. NORA MAE MYRICK DIES Mrs. Nora Mae Myrick , 35, lifetime resident of Poplar, died at a local hospital from burns received in a house fire Jan. 15. Requiem Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. Wed. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church , turial was in the Poplar Cemetary, with Rev. Raymond Lapke off- * iclating. A wake was held at the Tribal Building in Popler. Survivors include a son, Ronald, of Poplar; daughters, Cecilia, Nashua, and Doris of Poplar, a sister. John Long stood in to receive the aword for Mr. Youpee who was not present for the occasion. Outstanding Young Educo- tor of the year award was presented to Dwight Moose; Jaycees Distinguished Ser- vice’ Award went to Rev. Harbough; Jaycee Apprecio- tion Award was presented to Jim Witte and the Out- standihg Jaycee Award honors went to Kenneth Tonjum. Because of adverse weather conditions our speaker Lt. Gov. Thomas L. Judge was unable to be present to give the evening oddress. Stepping in to deliver the message was the Jaycee State Vice-President Ken Tonjum. This was the fifth year the Bosses Night Awards have been sponsored by the lo- cal Jaycees who feel that recognition of outstanding community leaders is a port of the growth and progress of any community.
