Candice Hall; Religion, Ardis Smith; Immortality, Vickie Smith; Fidelity, Joyce Pike; Pat- riotism, Nancy Van Dover; Seryice, Debbie Macdonald Confidential Observer, Jeanne Sagissor; Mother Advisor, ReNell Walter. GRAD SERVING IN TAIWAN Friends of the Lundeen and Hunt families, formerly, longtime residents of Poplor, will be interested to know that Billy Hunt , son and grandson of the above , and a Poplar High School grad- vate, is now doing his 2- year stint in the U.S. Air- force, as Doctor of Medicine in Taiwan, formerly Formosa . This is just !00 miles from Chairman Mao. Billy is o graduate of Harvard and Cornell School of Medicine, and interned at a Cleveland Hospital prior to his assignment in the Republic of China. His wife, who accompanied him to Tiawan is tutoring some Japanese and Chinese child- ren in English. Installing Recorder, One Vee Sage. The following Master Masons and Eastern Stars were installed as the new Ad- visory Board: Harriet Kirn, Ona Vee Sage, Audrey Kirn, Dorothy Crowley, Hans Nelsen, James Dan- ielsen and Howard Smith. Outgoing Worthy Advisor, Rhonda Kirn was presented a gift from the Assembly . She thanked the girls for their help and for making her term a successful one. W.A. Lorrie announced her colors were red and white; Flower-the Carnation; Sta- -L her a Noma i” song \| Believe\ was sung and accom panied on the guitar by Rocky Cummins. Outgoing Mother Advisor Jean Danielsen was pre- sented a gift from the Assembly in appreciation of her many services. Following ;the installation, officers, members and guests enjoyed a delicious lunch hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Harold Iverson. The table was beautifully dec- orated with a centerpiece of red and white carnations, a gift from Lorrie's Aunt and Uncle who réside in Colorado. Her cake, accen- ting her colors wos baked by Margoret Nees and cut and served by Dorris Sage. Jean Danielsen poured PARTICIPATE IN W.P. TOURNEY The Poplar High School Speech Squad participated in the Wolf Point invita- tional Speech and Drama Tournament held Saturday, January 24th. Approximately 170 students representing 12 schools from Eastern Mont- ana participated in the tournament . Participating for Poplar were: - David Nass, John Taflan, Ray Dozeliek, Linda Wetz, and Leanne Brown in de- bate, Donna Swank in Girl's Extemp; Ardis Smith in Expository Speaking; Dwaine Iverson in Impromptu; Shirley Linthicum in Mem- orized Public Address; and Kay Keefer in Oral Interp. Nass and Taflan received second place honors in de- bate with a 3 - | record for the tournament. Ardis Smith received 4th place in Expository while Donna Swank received 5th place in Girl's Extemp. and Dwaine Iverson received 7th place in Impromptu . The Tournament Speech - Drama Sweepstakes went to Culbertson with Sidney finishing second. The next tournament for Poplar will be at Culbertson, February 7th. MAGNEBELL INSTALLED A “MagneBell” Tape Player was recently installed in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Poplar. This announcement was mode by Rev. Father Raymond J. Lapke, pastor, who said that the instrument: is o gift from Mrs. James B. Byrne and her son and daughters in memory of James B. Byrne. James 8B. Byrne was a life time mem- ber of the parish before his death in May 1969. The \MagneBell” instrument is an exclusive development of Schulmerich Carillons, Inc., Sellersville, Pennsy- lvania, the world's largest producer of carillons, bells, and chimes, with over eight thousand installations throu- ghout the world. The \Mag- neBell\ consists of four clock-controlled magnetic tape players and an audio- amplification system. The instrument can be set to automatically play o pre- determined number of car- illon Hymn selections and bell ringing programs ot chosen times of the day. The instrument is programed to ring the “Angelus” at noon and at 6:00 p.m. each day, followed by ao” hymn, |5 minutes later. The evening Masses ore announced by a three bell peal on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday ot 7:15 p.m. On Sundays, a 4 bell peal is rung 15 minutes before the appointed time for Mass to begin and again at the be- ginning of Masses at 8:30 and 10:30. Tickets may be ob- tained from any Chamber member . CLASS ‘C’ TOURNEY The Class C District 2 Tourney will be held in Sidney Februory |8th, |9th, 20th and 2ist. Afternoon games will begin Friday at 2°and at 3:30 p.m. Saturday morning gomes will stort ot 9 and 10:300.m. All evening sessions, Wed., Thurs.,. Fri., and Sot. will stort at 7 p.m. Reserve seats ore now on sole, Adult reserve seats for all ball games are $7.00. The student tickets are $3.00 for all games. These tickets must be pur- chased before Feb. 10th. They can be purchased from any of the Supt. in the District, but should be pur- chased from the Supt. of the schools you wish to support. The teams in the District are: Brockton, Bainville, Culbertson, Froid, Frazer, Lombert, Richey, and Savage . Your support is appreciated. > BROCKTON ORGANIZES. BOY SCOUT TROOP Nine boys hove signed up in Troop 800. of Brockton . All of the boys hiked to an area about 3 1/2 miles east of Brockton near the Missouri river on Soturday, Jon. 24th, where they mode a survey through the thick brush for animal and bird tracks, old and fresh. The boys then cooked their lunches over open fires . This past Monday evening, the Scouts of Troop 800 elected Paul Wetz of Poplor as their Senior Patrol Leader and Bryon Bauer as Troop Scribe . cont. pg. 4: LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSES AT HOSPITAL The following nurses aides at Community Hospital have qualified by experience, study, and State Examino- tion to become Licensed Practical Nurses: Lorena Buckles, Mamie Dupree, Mary Lou McDaniel, and Emma Jean Ricker. Judy Ann Zimmerman grad- vated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing at Dick- inson, North Dakota and has been granted her Licen- sed Practical Nurses cert- ificate. Other licensed pro- ctical nurses at Community Hospital are: Lindy Big Horn, Karen Edigar, Dar- lene Finley, Caroline Ham- ilton, Lucille Hamilton and Florance Peterson. Thus the nursing staff at Comm- unity Hospital includes I! Licensed Practical Nurses.
