FARM PAYMENT DATE ADVANCED Final payments to participants in the 1970 wheat certificate and feed groin progroms will be made as soon as possible after July |, Secretary of Agriculture Clifford M. Hardin had announced . Previously payments have not beenmade until after the final date for certifying com- pliance with programs. This has generally meant that payments to Montana producers begon during August . The speed upin payments is Yecognition of the extreme financing problem faced by by farmers and is welcome news, Joel P. Antrim, chair- man of the Montana State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee, commented . “Last year in Montana feed grain and wheat payments were not completed until about the end of September. This change should enable us to make most payments in connection with the voluntary commodity progroms-—- Wheat * marketing certificates, feed grain price supports and payments for voluntary div- ersion of feed grain and wheat .” Antrim pointed out that the early payment operation will depend on producers certify- ing compliance with pro- gram provisions somewhat earlier than in the past. Certification means that the farmer has complied with the program provisions--not that he intends to comply . When the former certifies, that means his acreage on that day is exactly what he certifies thot it is. ASCS offers a measurement service at cost to help pro- ducers determine their exact commodity and diverted acreages. Requests for this service may be made at county offices, Antrim said. Farmers and ranchers will begin signup on Feb. 2 to porticipate in this year's wheat and feed grain pro- groms. Since programs ore voluntary, only those gro- wers who sign intentions will be eleigible to participate and earn benefits . Information on the two pro- grams and on measurement service is available at all county ASCS offices. POPLAR SCOUTS Monday, February 2, the Poplar Boy Scout Troop 877 met ot the Tribal Build- ing.
