AT CITY SHOP POPLAR, MONTANA QUALITY CONTROL: INSPECTORS NAMED The Poplar Animals part- icipated in the Eastern Divisional Wrestling Tour- nament on February |3th and |4th, and again perform-: ed very well. Of the five members of the squad, 3 members will attend the State A-B-C Wrestling meet to be held this week-end in Havre:The three are 2 Seniors, Don Lockman, and Tom Danielson, and a Fresh- man Rusty Lockman. Don wrestled his way to the championship at 145 pounds, and Tom and Rusty received third place medals at 185 and 107 respectively. All threé wrestlers deserve cre- dit for their flawless sea- sons, and for representing their school: under circum- stances which very ‘often would have stopped the average young men. Don Lockman attained the championship by defeating Doug Vashus, also a senior, of Glendive. These 2 agg- ressive wrestlers reached a 2-2 deadlock at the end of the regular 6 minute match, and entered on overtime to decide the winner. Lockman scored a reversed in the second overtime period, slipped into a figure four leg ride and maintained his lead for the remaining 17 seconds of the match. Rusty Lockman received 3rd place ofter being defeated in the semi-finals by the Left to right: Don Lockman, Rusty Lockman, Tom Danielson WRESTLERS GOING TO STATE TOURNEY FEBR 19, 1970 eventual champion, Hen- derson of Glasgow. After defeating Richie Hollow- breast of St. Labre, Rusty faced Malce of Glandive in the consolation division. Being out pointed during the match, Rusty found himself 4 points behind with less than I5 seconds left in the final period. He quickly scored a reverseal and put Malce into a pin hold and at the buzzer won the match by one point. A very excep- tional effort by a freshman. Tom Danielson advanced thru the wrestle-backs to the consolation matches, after losing a heartbreak battle to Zielstra of Miles City, 6-5 in the semi-finals. After this loss, however, he left no doubt that he deserved a finals match, by decisively defeating Boyer of Sidney, and Les Wienke of Wolf Point. Tom deserves much credit for his secondary efforts after such a disgrunt- ling loss. Mike Hall and Tom Kirn deserve credit for their continued attendance to the program. Both are young but show promise. for future seasons. Don Lockman must be commended for being a Champion in every sense of the word. From his attitude, to his achievement of a” 22 win, 3 loss record thus far this season. GOOD LUCK BOYS,
