All officers and interested DISTRICT MUSIC FESTIVAL Poplar High School's music’ department took high honors at the District #12 Music Festival held in Wolf Point April 17th and 18th. Com- petition for soloists and en- sembles was held on Friday with the large vocal and instrumental groups perform- ing on Saturday. The event was climaxed on Soturday evening with oa concert by the District select band and chorus and featured an outstanding soloist or ensem- ble from each school. P lor was represented by the stage band. The vocal ratings ot the festival were: Superior (I) boys octet; Excellent (I!) a vocal solo by Lorrie Iver- son; good (Ill) Senior girls trio, mixed quortet, mixed ensemble, and girls ensem- ble. The mixed chorus re- ceived a Il on performance and a Ill for sight-reading. ARTS & CRAFTS FESTIVAL On Tuesday, April 28, Pop- lar High School will present its sixth annual Arts and Crofts Festival in the high School auditorium. The pro- gram is a combination of efforts of the Music, Speech, Drama, and English deport- ments. This yeor two Poplar High School students, Shan- non Moilanen and David Nass will be masters of ceremonies. The festival will open with @ one-act play, “The Clow”. The production is under the direction of Dwight Moose and the assistant director is Roberta Murray. The cast includes John Reinlasoder, David Sage, Bob Huso, Gwyn McAnally, and Tom Danielson. The crew includes Nancy Von Dovér, and Larry Nesbit. The play was ' presented at the State and District Drama Festivals. At the District Festival, \The cont. pg. 8 Monday, April 20, Harry L. Axtmann filed for the office of Roosevelt County Superintendent of Schools. He has served as Superintendent since June, 1969, filling the unexpired term of Mrs. Alice Fossen. Mr. Axtmann is a resident of Poplar where he tought History and Political Science for four years at the Poplar High School. Prior to mov- ing to Poplar, Mr. Axtmann worked for the Great Falls Fire Department for five years in conjunction with attending college. He grad- vated from the College of Great Falls in 1965 with a B.S. Degree in History and Political Science. He is a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy having serv- ed his country with distinc- tion for a number of yeors. He is a member of the Am- erican Legion at Poplar, V. F.W. Post 1087 of Great Falls, a member of the Montana Education Associo- tion, the National Educe- tion Association, the Mont- and Association of Superintendents and the Northeastern Montana Association of School Ad- ministrotors. He is a past member of the Poplar Jay- cees, where he held the MEASLE CLINIC A Rubella (German Measles) Clinic will be held in Poplar on Thursday April 30, 1970. This clinic is for all children ages 1-12. School children - will receive the vaccine at the school in the A.M. Pre - school should be brought to the Tribal Building between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 P.M. All children in this age group should have this vaccine re- gordless of history of the dis- ease.
