The speakers, pic- tured above, academically represent the top ten per cent of the graduation class. Special academic trophies will be presented to these students ot a Junior-Senior Convocation this week. All Senior Honor Students, those who hove montoined @ 3.00 (B) grade point average or better, will wear special gold ropes on their commencement gowns in recognition of their sustained academic occom- plishments . The Boccolaureate ceremony will take place in the High School Auditorium on A Public Health sponsored rabies clinic will be held at the following ploces and times: Ft. Kipp Community Hall, May \8th from 9a.m. to 12 noon, Brockton School - 4 p.m., Wolf Point ire Station, May 20th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from | - 4 p.m., and Frazer Community Hall, May 21 from | - 4 p.m. Sunday, May |7th at 8:00 p.m. Reverend James Wil- son will give the Senior Sermon, Reverend Gary Lindbo will give the In- vocation and Benediction. GWYN MCANALLY, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Brion McAnally, finishes her high school yeors at the top of her graduating class by maintaining a commendable 3.938 grade point average. Apart from the academics, Gwyn has made outstanding contri- butions in such co-curri- culor activities as Student Government, Pep Club, Drama Club, and Cheer- leading. Gwyn was also selected os President of PHS's National Honor Society this past year. Miss McAnally's Commencement speech will be entitled \ A Class Portrait\. GED IN POPLAR GED (General Equivalency Diploma) classes will be started in Poplor for those who are interested in work- ing towards and obtaining their GED. To sign up or seek further information contact the Bureau of Work Training Programs Office in the Tribal Building. NOTICE CLEAN UP WEEK HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO INCLUDE GARBAGE PICK UP THRU THIS WEEK END. SHANNON MOILANEN, daughter of Mrs. Betty Moilanen, also has a commendable academic and co-curricular record during her past four years at Pop- lar High School. Shannon, a member of the National Honor Society, received special recognition this year as recepient of a High School Honor Scholarship awarded by the Montana University System. Shannon's co-curricular involvement includes such activities as Music, Speech, Drama, Photography, and Pep Club. She was selected as a class officer to help direct the activities of the Class of '70 during all four years at PHS. She was recently announced as the local winner of the Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year Award. Miss Moilanen will TOP TEN PERCENT TO BE RECOGNIZED enroll at the University of Montana this fall. BONNIE IVERSON, daugh- ter of Mr. & Mrs. Merland Iverson of Poplar, will also graduate as a senior member of the National Honor So- ciety this year. Bonnie will continue her education foll- owing Commencement act- ivities by attending Eastern Montana College and major- ing in Elementary Education. During her stay at PHS, she was active in Student Council, Speech, and Pep Club activities. Miss Iver- son will be giving the “Welcome” address at Grad- vation Monday evening. MITCH BARNES, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Werner, has been very active in the Photography, Music, and Yearbook act- ivities during his Senior yeor. Academically, he Requiem mass was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Coth- olic Church, Tuesday, May 2th, with Rev. Raymond Lapke officiating, for George F. Baker, 81, who died Friday at Poplar Com- munity Hospital following a long illness. Internment was in the Poplar City Cemetary . He was born Nov. 8, 1888, at Danby, Mo., a son of Mr. & Mrs. William Baker. He attended schools at Danby, then moved to St. Louis when he was in his early twenties. He served in the U.S. Army during World War |. He married Loretta Powderly June 20, 1918, in Tipton, Ill. He had moved to Montana and homesteaded in Mineral Bench orea northeast of Poplar in 1917 and returned to the homestead in 1920 after finishing his military service. In 1938 the couple moved into Poplar and he continued farming until his death. Survivors include the wid- ow, three sons, Earl and was given special recogni- tion by finishing in the top 20% in the High School Week Testing Program this yeor. Mitch plans to attend Montana State University this fall to major in Still Photography. He will give the “Farewell” address at Commencement . TOM DANIELSEN, the son of Mr. & Mes. Jim Daniel- sen, has o most impressive high school record. He has participated in PHS's Foot- ball, Wrestling, and Trock Programs all four years; he further served as Junior Class President, Student Council President, and has been a member of two Dramo Productions: His graduation speech will be entitled “Minimum or Max- imum Involvement.” Tom plans to attend MSU in Bozeman this fall. Elmer, both of Popior, and Harold of Missoula; two doughters, Mrs. Clar- ence Wilke (Isabelle) of Poplar and Mrs. Donald Harris (Eileen) of Shenan- doch, Va; two brothers, Jesse of Early, lowa, and William of Festus, Mo.; four sisters, Mes. Elizabeth Covillard of St. Louis, Mo. Mrs. Alice Kurtz of St. Louis, Mo.; Dora Gonsner of Festus, Mo.; and Mar- goret McClanahan of Cabool, Mo.; 13 grand- children and 10 great- grandchildren , THIS IS NATIONAL HOSPITAL AND REST HOME WEEK WOULDN'T THIS BE A GOOD TIME TO MAKE THAT VISIT YOU'VE BEEN PUTTING OFF?
