Ist prize is a Zebco 404 Rod & Reel. 2nd prize is a 202 Zebco Reel. GIRLS TRACK TEAM TAKE 4TH Thirteen PHS girls partici- pated in the Eastern Divi- sional Track Meet at Glen- dive on May I6. The PHS team was: Becky Schagunn, Marlene Smith, Jody Heiden, Kathy Thorsen, Sandra Coul- ter, Robin Wright, Leanne Brown, Carol Lockman, Jeri Smoker, Barbora Swank, Jackie Marottek, Ardis Smith and Jane Anderson. Twenty-five teams were represented at the meet in class \B\. Fairview won the meet with 25 1/2 points. Poplar placed fourth with 19 1/2 points. Eight PHS girls will represent the Eastern Division at Bill- ings on May 22 and 23. Sandra Coulter placed first in the shot-put and fifth in the discus. Jeri Smoker placed second in the mile. Robin Wright placed fifth in the 880 yd. dash. Jane An- derson took fourth place in the high jump. The 440 yd. relay team took first place and the runners were Becky Schagunn, Kathy Thorsen, Marlene Smith and Jody Heiden. evening. Mervin's mother, Mrs. Mavis Failing, was also a special guest of the club. The scholarship to Interno- tional Peace Gardens Music Camp, cated on the Man- itoba-North Dakota border, covers tuition, board, room, and three private lessons. Mervin will study voice at one of the weekly Chorus sessions held in July. Besides being active in the Poplar High School Choir for two years, Mervin, a sophomore, has also been a member of the Poplar Boys Octet which performed at the Eastern State Music Festival, Billings, in early May. Randy Heiden, Karen Lien with alternates, Diane Andersen and Bonnie lver- son have been named as recepients of scholarships to the Rocky Mountain District Encounter school to be held in Billings, Montana from June 22-26. The school is a gathering of some of the more gifted and dedicated young christ- ians from Lutheran congrega- tions within Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. They will be led to Encounter the issues and feelings that separate and alienate men and begin to examine ways that they as christians can be counted among the \peace makers\. BANKERS ELECT OFFICERS People from Poplar in attendance report hearing many complimentary comm- ents about the fine facil- ities, decor and service at the Legion Hall. Group IV of the Montana Bankers Association held its annual meeting in Pop- lor Tuesday, May I9th. The program included a ladies luncheon for the ladies, an afternoon busi- ness meeting for the men and a banquet in the even- ing. There were 165 in attendance at the banquet representing banks in Plentywood, Froid, Cul- bertson, Scobey, Wolf Point, Glasgow, Hinsdale and Malta.
