POPL LC POST OFFICE BOX 1028 59255 PHONE 768-3433 NEW TEACHERS RECREATION COMING TO POPLAR Linda Strand of Eastern Mont- ana College will join the Poplar School Faculty as o first grade teacher for 1970- 71. Miss Strand served the Poplar School as a teacher intern during the past yeor. Dannette Mogon, native of Hinsdale, Montano will join the Poplar School Faculty for 1970-71 as a second grade teacher. Miss Mogan is on Eastern Montano College graduate . Dillon, will join Poplar School Faculty for 1970-71 as 7th & 8th grode Social Studies instruc- . Matson will also as Heod Wrestling plus assisting in foot- PROGRAM SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM FOR BOYS A summer recreation program for boys: of the Poplar area will be offered during the coming summer months. It will consist of two basic ports, Little League Baseball and general recreation. Little League Baseball is open to all ‘boys from age 8 to 12, while the Recreation Program will be offered to all boys from age 6 to |7. Little League will start on June 8th, and will run every day from the 8th to the [3th. After that date, the program will be run on every Tuesday and Thursday, until July 30th. Several Saturdays will also be used by the program and games and tournments will be common. A schedule of practice times is given also. Baseball practice will always be at the little league field. The summer recreation progror will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from June 15 until July 3l. Activities will be geared to different age groups, and some offered will include Physical Fitness tests, Archery Softball, Volleyball, etc. A schedule for this program and age groups is also offered All local boys are urged to participate . GIRLS' RECREATION PROGRAM The summer recreation pro- gram will begin on June 8. The program is set up for all young people from the ages of 6 to I7 in the Pop- lor oreo, The following is a schedule for the different age groups: 9:00 - 10:30 6 & 7 years old 10:30 - 12:00 8 & 9 years old. 1:00 - 3:00 10,11,12 years old. 3:00 - 5:00 13 to I7 years old. The recreation activities will include games, softball, archery, hiking and track and field. The girl's recreation program will be under the supervision of Miss Marian Neurohr. Memorial services are conducted each year by the American Le- gion Firing Squad. JER) SMOKER PLACES 2ND AT STATE MEET Kristin Clairmont, right, of Ronan finds an ideal running spot on the heels of Geri Smoker of Poplar in the Class B mile Friday at the Fairgrounds in Billings. Miss Clairmont won in 5:37 .1 and Miss Smoker was second. The Poplar School Superin- tendent is advertising for housing for the teachers who will be new to the Poplar School Staff during the 1970- 7\ school term. It would appear that the people new to the stoff will be interested in apartments, as well as smaller houses or trailer homes. If you now have some living quorters for rent, or if you know that you will have some rentals in the future, please contact the Superintendent's Office. It is one thing to hire people to work in our excellent school facilities, but it is quite another thing to find housing. GIRLS' TRACK Eight Poplar High School girls participated in the Girls’ State Track meet ot Billings. The girls were Jeri Smoker, Sandra Coulter, Marlene Smith, Kathy Thor- sen, Becky Schagunn, Jodi Heiden, Jane Anderson and Robin Wright. Kathy Holen, the student manager, also traveled with the team. Jeri Smoker placed second in the mile run. The relay team, Schagunn, Thorsen, Smith, and Heiden, qualified for the finals. The PHS girls, coached by Miss Marian Neurohr, tied for léth place. There were 88 participating class \B\ schools.
