D AMAGE FROM HAIL /that this association be named and Thejiail storm which struck Town- send Monday evening did very little damage except to garden truck, but about three miles north of the city it was different. The volume of water Which...Accompanied__ the_ _storm, to- gether with the hail, wrought fearful havoc in the neighborhood of Bed- ford. Isom Preuitt's garden and or- chard were literally destroyed,.or at least the fruit on the trees was. Nick Royig's ranch was devastated in a fearful manner -grain, alfalfa, chick- ens and pigs being destroyed. The sediment carried by the flood was possibly the greatest factor in the destruction. Accounts of losses from various quarters have been received; not to such an extent as in the places above mentioned. COURT PROCEEDINGS. May term, Friday July 2nd, 1909. Hall in Townsend were opened last Saturday afternoon, it was found that two bidders were strikingly close together. The com- mittee concluded th it n bid on two different propositions would be in or- der - thereforialle bidders were asked to submit figures which contemplated a little more work and material in one case aud a little less in another. Mr. Peterson was the lowest in one instance and T. N. Averill in the other. The committee had, prior to opening the bide concluded to adopt the plan which entailed the least - et: points+ and unfeffCmately Mr :Teter- son was just $18.00 high on the plan adopted. Consequently the contract was awarded to T. N. Averill. Had the plans as first adopted been main- tained to the last, Mr. Peterson would have secured the job. The StICCENS- ful bidder therefore clainis no edge in the matter of close figuring. Mr. leo. Jarvis also bid and while his es- timate Was somewhat higher than the contract was let for, he may have been nearest the proper figures after. all. The contract price is $9,188.00 for a 50 ft. 6 in. by 94 ft:A in.. two story brick with iron front and good poliali- ed plate glass. Work was begun on the contract this week. Locql NeNVs. Curtis, after which he will go to Mrs. Miles' home at Vancouver, B. C. for the remainder of the summer. The Montana Ditch Co. has pur- chased an engine for dredging pur- poses and Michael Wentz, an engin- ser from Missoula. is at present set- ting it up near the head of the ditch with a view of putting that portion of the ditch on a proper grade. Later tire lower part Of the ditch, which is badly filled up in places, will be cleaned out, and then a much larger supply of water can be secured. J. C. Fillenworth, a representative of the N P., spent the fore part of the week in this vicinity interviewing various ranchers in regard to dry land regions of Broadwater County. There are at pment many applications for railroad lands in our county for dry farming purposes, and Mr. Fillen- worth is giving the resident ranchers a first chance to buy or lease such sections, before disposing of them to others. In Township 7 N II 3 E all but two sections are gone, and in Township 6 . N R 3 E all of the gov- ernment land is disposed of. Several new ranchers have lately taken land in that vicinity, which lies between Deep creek and Greyson creek. Ex- periments in this portion of the vat - ley have always proven successful, and it certainly looks as if dry ferm- i - lig htl,d come to stay. - NOTICE We, the undersigned, hereby agree that after July 12, 1909, a charge of * of one per cent will be charged for each and every plan figured up to $1,000, money to be returned by the successful bidder when work is com- menced, provided however that the contractor must stand by his estimate.
