He may have enemies, and still his worth as a servant of the people may not be in the least minimized. Because - certain man or a certain news- paper is constantly assaulting him through inuendo and vague hints as to his integrity may do him some harm and cause him some . annoyance, same time it does not -lessen his value as an officer in the eyes of those who regard him without prejudice, nor does it injure him with those honest enough and fair enough to get all the facts. The new editor of the Min- eral Independent was fortunate enough to know the present county attorney several years THE MINERAL INDEPENDENT PUBLISHED WEEKLY Tuesday and Friday BY MINERAL PUBLISHING CO. at Superior, Mineral County, Mont. Letters for publication must bear the writer's signature, although it need not be published. THE COUNTY ATTORNEY The Mineral lndepent does not believe in reckless and un- called for newspaper attack‘ upon any county official, no matter what the politics of the assailed public servant may be. Rather, it „is - inclined to think that a newspaper abuses its prerogatives when it uses its columns - for which the people payin - the way of subs,:riptions, advertisements and job work - to attack any man without grave reasons. The Mineral Independent be- lieves that honesty and integ- rity and ability prevail, as a rule, in the public service, all the way from road overseer to president. It does not regard every act of every official as underhanded, and as having ulterior motives. In fact, this paper believes that incompe- tent and dishonest officials are an exception to the general rule, net. 25, lots 5 and 8 less school and RW., Sec. $9, Twp. 15„ Rge. 25 Hennesey, Est., Theo., care of J. At that time it was the writer's duty to \cover\ the court house news at Red Lodge, and he had occasion to know that Mr. Hyde was a respected member of the Carbon County Bar association,- bearing a repu- tation for integrity and ability second to none among the many brilliant lawyers appear- ing before Judge Sydney Fox, now deceased. It is not likely that Mr. Hyde has changed for the worse, as his lone enemy in Superior insinuates, but it is all the more probable that he has ripened in experience and broadened in his views since we knew him in Carbon county three or four years ago. It matters, not what the politics of Mr, Hyde or any other county official may be, The Mineral Inde- pendent, under its present editor- ship, will always be willing to give tribute where tribute is due, and to withhold criticism unless such is deemed absolutely necessary, even then being fully assured as to the facts before rushing its views into print.
