P E O P L E ___________ Pow e ll chosen best IHS CH N by Channel TeUier Pat Jannsen and KoLynn Powell at the awards banquet, at which Powell was named Billings Area IHS CHN of the year. KoLynn Powell, one of two IHS community health nurses, was chosen the Billings Area CHN of the year. If you remember last year, we ran a profile on Powell when she became a new IHS staff member. In a short 18 months, or so, she has reached this top honor of being selected from the Billings Area, which covers all of the Indian reservations in Montana and one in Wyoming. Powell was nominated by her supervisor, Pat Jannsen, who submitted an over-all performance report to the Billings Area CHN consultant The report was evaluated and Powell came up a winner. She was presented with a per sonalized plaque by the Billings Area Director, James Danielson. Not only was Powell chosen CHN of the year, but she also finished third in the category of Public Health Service nurse of the year. She is also currently in the running for the national IHS nurse of the year. According to Jannsen, Powell was selected for her ability to work well with other people, her job performance and for striving to follow the area’s goals and objectives for health care for the Indian people. “ This is quite an accomplishment for a nurse who has been working for such a short time,” says Jannsen. The young Tribal member received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 1978. She has held similar health care positions before returning to work on the Reservation. She may be seeking a different position pretty soon, however, if the Tribes successfully contracts the IHS community nursing component 3 Mission Lumber and Hardware J BUILDING MATERIALS AND FURNITURE, TOO < S t Ignatius, M T 745-2341 4 I TeUier, McDonald married On Saturday, June 22, C.
