Minutes to be mailed out in newsletter Obituaries CAROLE L. TAYLOR POLSON — Carole L Taylor, 55, of Poison, died March 24, at St. Joseph Hospital in Poison, of liver and kidney failure. She was born May 13, 1931, in St. Ignatius. She was raised and received her education in Poison. Shortly after graduating from high school, she married John Wicherofthe Poison area. They resided in Poison until her husband’s death. After that, she became a waitress in a nightclub and lounge in the Kalispell area. She later married Gene Taylor and they lived in and managed an apartment complex in Missoula. At the age of 44, she attended college in Seattle, obtaining a degree in respiratory therapy. Recently she was attending the Salish Kootenai College in Pablo, taking courses on the culture and lifestyles of her ancestors. She was a member o f the Tribes. She brought fun and happiness to many people in the Flathead Valley, ac cording to her family. Survivors include her father, Henry Burbau (Poison); a brother, James Burbau (Sandy, Ore.); a daughter, Sharon Campbell (Vista, Calif); and two grandsons, John and Brian Campbell (also of Vista). No services are planned at this time. PATRICK ADAMS RONAN — Patrick Adams, 56, of Ronan, died of a heart attack March 25, at St. Luke Community Hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1931, in Ronan to Pierre and Adaline Adams. He grew up and attended school in Ronan and then ranched in the area. Mr. Adams was a hoop dancer on the Bicentennial Train trip to Wash ington, DC. He was preceded in death by his father in April 1961, his mother in August 1977 and by a half-sister, Louise Conko. He married Marlene Courville on April 15, 1952, and is now survived by her. Also surviving are a son, Roy Sunrobe Adams (Ronan); two half- brothers, Larry Parker (Ronan) and Francis Adams (Worley, Idaho). Traditional wake services began March 26 at the St. Ignatius Long House. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 28 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ronan with the Rev. William Waggoner as celebrant. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery. Page 4 .......................................................................... Due to the large number of requests for the minutes, the Council recently decided that it would be more cost- efficient to mail them under the Char- Koosta’s second-class permit. They’ll also be distributed on a more timely basis because the Tribal newsletter is mailed weekly (G o d willin’ and the HUNTING REMINDERS Tribal law prohibits the killing of female animals during the period of Feb. 1 to Sept. 1. Anyone witnessing the violation of any Tribal law is urged to report the incident immediately to Tribal enforcement personnel: 675-4600, 24 hours a day. The delay is due in large part, to the March 14 fire at the Complex, which led to the loss of the Main Office’s label-printing capabili ties. As soon as we re-create their mailing file here at the CKN, we’ll get those February minutes out to the post office. SPEECH TRAINING, from page three Indian school children have more speech, language or hearing pro blems than any other handicap. Speech, language and hearing pro blems occur four times more often among Indians than other U.S. citizens, according to the program. The program’s goals are to qualify students for a Master’s degree in the subject, integrate the study of Indian languages and culture, develop therapy programs that are sensitive to Indian cultural needs and esta blish a professional work force to serve Indian people. To qualify, students must be juniors or seniors in college, listed as aTribal m e m b erandfluent in English and their Tribal language. Tuition and fees are paid and a monthly stipend is allowed. Basic firefighter training w ill be held May 4, 5, and 6 at the St. Ignatius Com m u n ity Center beginning at 7:30 a.m. each day. Only in experienced, first-tim e firefighters are re quired to attend this training. W h at are the requirem e n ts? 1) You must be 18 years of age 2) Pass a firefighter physical 3) Pass a firefighter step-up test or run 1 1/2 m iles in 11 m inutes 40 seconds or less 4) Attend a basic firefighter training course Steps 1-4 need to be com p leted in sequential order, such as physical/step test/train ing.
