Educational Talent Search helps out with 'paperwork jungle' With the new school year in full swing, the Educational Talent Search Program is busy serving local high school students who par ticipate in the program. Educational Talent Search is sponsored by the Commissioner of Higher Education in Helena. Its pur pose is to provide students informa tion and counseling regarding their career and educational options to help improve the likelihood of their completeing high school and enroll ing in college or vocational school. ETS works with schools to identify and serve young people who might be interested in pursuing higher education but who need information, encouragement or financial assis tance to do so. Once accepted as an ETS partici pant, local program coordinators meet with students in small groups or individually and attempt to provide them the information, support and skills necessary to make informed career decisions. If a student de cides to pursue college, ETS then guides them through the “paperwork jungle\ required to successfully en ter postsecondary school with adequate financial aid. Parents, or others interested in learning more about ETS services, are urged to contact their local coor dinator. Kathy Knapp, the Flathead Area Coordinator, is housed by Sal ish Kootenai College in Pablo (phone number: 675-4800) and vis its area high schools weekly. Educational Talent Search also assists out-of-school adults to enter or re-enter college or vocational training. Watch for later articles on this and other ETS services and activities.
